The river was high today. it's been raining for a few days. usually you can see the bed of the river in most spots, not today.

though the sun is trying to come out.

can't commute without my morning cup of coffee

luckily my bikes get a nice dry warm spot while i'm working.

Took the ride out after almost a week of not riding
Work has been busy and I hadn't swapped out a new rear tube yet so I did that and thought I would snap a pic.

yesterday's ride home went like this;

so today's ride into work went like this:

One item of note, two homeless people said hi to me while riding in this morning. Could it have anything to do with the bike?
maybe it's the fact I ride in these:

Or maybe I just always look like a homeless person.

It's just those east coast white feet Matt; once you ride a full summer out there you'll look like the rest of the 80 bajillion folks in California and nobody will notice you at all.

Oh and I'm Brian, not Matt

No pics of me at the moment, but just imagine riv knickers, sanuk sandals, and a week of not shaving. But Mainly its the rusty stump jumper with the front basket that attracts the homeless folks. So I like to think.

that pub crawl looks like a good time...
i've been reminded of this maxim recently: "I stop for people / whose right of way I honor / but not for no one."
thanks for that.
today, i rode down, past green lake to the top of lake union and then on over to lake washington and took the trail all the way up to that little park at the top of the lake. and there, i sat, and ate an orange. it was pretty good.

Which little park is it at Lake Washington? We live at the south end of the lake, in Renton, at The Landing. New to the area, so we would love some good suggestions of where to head off to.

hi, urabbit. i biked down to renton once to the king county voter hq. i remember it as a pretty tough slog down there. and then i got a serious wake up call by a car at an intersection. not sure renton is very bike friendly, or if i was just having a bad go of it that day. but if you can make your way north to seward park ave, you can take a break at seward park and then head up lake washington blvd and explore the lake and the rest of the city. i especially like biking through the small but exhilarating interlaken park in the montlake area. also from renton, you can head n.west to tukwila, and take the duwamish trail to w.seattle. once in w.seattle, you can take the alki trail to the beach and beyond. take a look online at the king county bicycling resources page for maps. and happy biking.

ps: that pic was taken at log boom park at the top of the lake. that's kenmore, i think. the burke gilman trail took me up there, basically from gas works park. the bg trail is fine, and there is a new, perfectly paved section leading to this park, but i generally feel the bg trail is bumpy, boring and uneventful. my favorite riding in town is actually in the bike lanes in town. seems to be less dangerous than avoiding pedestrians and casual cyclists on trails. check out lake.wa.blvd -- pot holey, but fun and beautiful with all the trees and the views of the lake.

Went out for my weekend 20 today. Should have dug out one of the vintage steeds but my DD ready to go and by the door. I also swapped the Stem and want to see what I thought about that.
This week the City of Marietta GA was celebrating "The Great Locomotive Chase". The Southern premier was at the Strand theater here in town that was built in the 30's.
They had people dressed in mid 1800's costume Saturday mulling around Grover park in the city square telling the history of the event. The movie is based on the theft of "the General" by Members of the Union Army in an event know as "Andrew's Raid". Marietta was the last stop before the theft in the next town north "Big Shanty" Now known as Kennesaw GA. The General is housed in a Museum in Kennesaw. Information is in that hyper link above. Or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Locomotive_Chase

After riding through Marietta I rode parallel the tracks to the city of Kennesaw through Kennesaw Mountain National Battle field park where the battle for Atlanta Began. 5300+ solders perished in the battles around the mountain between June 19 and July 2nd 1864.

That second shot is great, grim. In my weird associational brain the bike sorta looks like a reflection of the gun in the grass. Apt, since the gun industry standardization is what made the first bike boom possible, and many noted gun builders turned to bikes, like B.S.A., Steyr, Enfield etc.

It's getting to be that time of year in FL...up before dawn and on the road before the sun rises is the best riding weather!

I helped a friend get their giant TV mounted just in time to enjoy Paris-Roubaix last week. Cycling season will be fun to watch this year
