Rating threads

Isn't it interesting that many of us never knew you could rate a thread with stars. I wonder what other nifty little features are on this page I've never noticed before.
Suppose there's an ejector seat button ?

I knew they were there but I've never used them .. there seems to a group "terrible" rated threads in the past 24 hours. A thread asking a simple question about pedal compatibility get's a single star ...

Yeah, I am guessing someone is just having fun. If not, then I don't really care about it. The responses to the threads are way more valuable than a nameless, faceless rating system.

Never noticed you could do this - THANKS

I rated this 5 stars because it's educational in an era in which education is in the doldrums.

And 'cause it was me brought it up in another thread :D

Cat's out of the bag now

I always saw it, but never used it unless I thought a thread was headed in a bad direction. but now it looks like that won't get noticed, cause now almost every thread is rated somehow,

funny how it has spread now.

Drillium Dude 07-31-11 02:40 PM

My guess is it's supposed to draw attention to those who might not even check out a particular thread.

For myself, I think most members do a damn fine job as regards thread titles. I can usually go by those to know whether the content is up my alley or not.

I just tweaked my browser to hide them.

Can't say that I find them nifty. It allows every troublemaker on the forum to poop on everyone's parade by anonymously flipping off whatever thread he doesn't care for.

Also notice that the rash of one-star ratings happened immidiately after KonAaron Snake sarcastically quipped that he was going to go out and do just that in the Campag RD thread. I'll bet anything that someone did so in an attempt to frame him as the perpetrator.

Frankly, I'd prefer to see the "rating" system kicked off the forum entirely. There's little good to come of it, but lots of negativity to be had.

I've ignored it for years, I am going to keep on ignoring it. I guess when I see the 483rd "Is this a PX10? It looks just like one." with a clear picture of a UO8, I'll go ahead and start rating those (we are not yet up to 200, so it should be a while yet). Or my other favorite, "this bike is so light I can pick it up with one finger".

rootboy 08-01-11 05:50 AM

Yeah. Even though I now know it's there, I have no real desire to use it. Still searching for that ejector seat button though;)

I agree .. or just have a rating system for positives, leave out the negative choices.

I've been ignoring them. Thread title is enough to decide if I want to open it.

KonAaron Snake 08-01-11 06:20 AM

Actually the negative comments started happening before my comment...right around the same time folks were talking about thread ratings somewhere else. I've known they were there for a while, but rarely used them. I guess I just don't see the point or what it accomplishes. At the same time, is an anonymous internet person disliking your thread worth getting upset over?

Take it from whence it comes, and you might consider it a compliment!
