Here's my wide-double on a mtb triple crankset. I think I used a 110mm BB, RF Turbine cranks, Salsa guard in the outer position, an old bmx chainring on this inside (currently a 43, but I have a 45 waiting to go on), and a 30t granny. For what I use the bike for, the gearing is fine. I don't mind coasting down the big hills :)

I just went over to the compact crank set up and am very pleased - I did not use a MTB crank but did order ecconomical 34T 110mm rings for a 110mm MTB then fit them to a road Sugino, Sunlite and Silstar 110mm crank - Happy HAPPY - Joy JOY - I left the 50+ rings on and yes it does mean more jocking around on the gears but they have been on for a couple of weeks and I am almost used to them now - Having that front 34t ring is allowing me to keep riding - So if you are doing any kind of hills mashing or not having a 34t ring up front really pays off...
(I also use a 6 speed Shimano freewheel at the rear with that 34t BAIL OUT gear that I use more often than I would like to admit) |
I was thinking about using this setup on a future build.
