I used to draft big rigs in my convertable. The lack of wind at 70mph was cool but the road grime that got into my hair was a drag so I didn't do it much.

Away we go 3 blocks away to the downtown stoplight (we only have 2). Just as hoped for the light turns red and I'm first at the light. Traffic begins to come to a halt behind me and across from me. A pickup on my right turns right just as the light gives me a green. Perfect. I have someone to tail for a few blocks.

Prior to my stopping I'd kept the big chainring and 3rd on the freewheel, just right for a sprint if you have a vintage 10sp. The speed limit is 25 so it's a ton of fun drafting cars heading out of town. By the way, we live in a very bike conscious small town of 3500.

We most likely hit 30mph because I stayed with him in 10th gear for about 2blks until my legs starting aching.

That was my recovery ride after a tough 50miler yesterday.
Sounds like cdr's Summer Street Sprint (youtube)

Around here the snow plows blast rock salt out the back. No fun at all.
In the more clement weather I do find myself chasing cars from time to time.

That was a hoot. He was getting some pretty good speed down through the lights behind that silver sedan. Loved it when he came out of the saddle for a bit.

When I was stationed at Pearl Harbor my riding partner and I would wait for a bus to come by and draft/race them to Ala Moana Center. We almost always won thanks to the bus stops, lol.

That's a particularly hardcore bit of riding, I must say. Like five miles of in-a-hurry impatient drivers on no-shoulder high-speed coastfront urban highway.

Ya, it was always crowded and would be a great training course for bike messengers. We had it down pat though, and we did every day. At lunch we would time trial from Nav Sub Training (Nastypac) to Hickam's back gate and back.

We did the 104 mile around the island run almost every weekend too.

I tried drafting last night, and I got out behind the first car on a major road. Porsche 911. Not the best to draft off of.

That would definately be a "chase" situation.

Not 'round here. Seniors in expensive cars doing 5 under is the norm.
