Need Help to identify a vintage Cannondale 16 speed bike
I bought this bike from a gentleman at $100.
The weight is light, and the tires and breaks are in very good shape. Only problem is the rusty chain.
Could anyone tell me what is the date of manufacture and what is the model name for this bike?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Post the serial number. This is a good start but not 100% accurate.
My guess is early '90s based on the style of the decal and the 8 speed cassette.

While the cassette does sem to be in the 90's, the Frame style looks like their late 80's models. I think by the 90's they had the 2.8 & 3.0 frameswhich had different rear wheel droupouts.
In the 80's it was fairly easy to buy a frame - no specific model - it build it up. That frame looks a lot like my 1st Cannondale, a 'Seasprite Green'
color.

something looks fishy. are the all the parts 600 or just the shifters and RD? the brake levers look like DiaCompe and the calipers look like 105s.
the placement of the decals looks real funky, was this repainted? is the fork alloy or steel?
I agree the style of the frame looks pre cantilever dropouts. were both frame produced for a few years?
IMHO $100 for a running Cdale is not a bad deal, and you Dentist will love it when your fillings rattle out

Oh, there are two threads for this one.
I'm guessing 1987 or 1988 going primarily by the rear dropouts and the chainstay dimples. Decal placement doesn't seem to jibe with that era so perhaps a repaint?
Rear wheel likely updated, as are some other bits I'd reckon.

Definitely a respray, and they didn't take the plastic top tube cable guides off when they did it (front one is missing). Separate RD hanger means 89 or later, non cantilever stays means early 90's. Fork looks non-original (and check to make sure it is not bent- looks odd to me). 8 speed 105 also means early 90's, but brake levers, crankselt and RD not the same group. It's a tall boy- I'd say a 62.
