Centurion Ironman 60cm......I just can't do it....
 

Hey Guys,

Here's a nice 60cm centurian ironman......I still don't get it. Is this that much better than a Schwinn Super Sport from the same era?? I feel that if I get it, and build it and ends up feeling like a 1986 Super Sport, I'm tossing it into the bay.....

Personally, I'd rather have the SS.

$300 plus shipping? You can do much better, as you know.

$300 for just the frame? I was watching a whole bike last night that went for around 220.

it must be different from a Schwinn I mean Dave Scott sighned right?

I keep hearing about these Centurions, honestly I see lots of them in the South Beach area. Some look clean, others ratty. Up close, I still don't get it..... Maybe if it was some kind of handbuilt team bike with Special race/go fast Geometry.

I don't know, I've never ridden one, but I'm told that's the key. Not for 300, though. For the complete bike, yes.

I agree but a pristine bike, in the size, year and color combination that you want is hard to find. I wouldn't pay 300 for any old frame, but I might pay 250 for the right one.

You can find cheap Ironmans if you haunt CL long enough. But just the one you want? That is another matter.

Price is WAY too high.

That's too high to me. I would only want around $300 for my entire (riding) Miami Vice.

A nice yellow complete bike, I believe a 60cm, just went for $407 on that auction site a couple of days ago. But the purple one referred to above only went for $220 something. They both looked in good shape. That much difference due to color? The components were 600 on one, 105 on the other (I think).

I loved the one I returned for a friend, it was very very nice. I'd be willing to part with $300 for a complete one, but it would have to be pink.

I've ridden a 1987 SS and a 1989 Ironman.. I think the ironman is the better choice

i wouldn't pay $300 for a frame.. but i wouldn't sell my 1989 for less than $400

What differences did you notice?

i didn't ride the SS for long so i honestly couldn't give a great comparison, but i have never ridden a bike which feels as nimble and lively as my ironman. Schwinns especially have seemed kind of "dead" feeling

plus most IM paint jobs are sexier than SS ;) but you can get an SS in pink

But that frame is priced too high. Maybe it really is my fault.

I dunno....I'm just sitting here drinking.....could be the heat.....I'm sorta hungry....it's gettin' late....

Schwinn really screwed the pooch with that color scheme. So much so, that they were forced to introduce the red and white fade midway through the model year to recover sales.
