Cease and desist unlawful misuse of craigslist

For those of you who found the Jaxed website especially useful in shopping/assessing fair market values for bikes, say goodbye to that, courtesy of those merrymakers at Craigslist Headquarters.

I am really begiinning to hate CL.

Reference this message from Jaxed Mash:

Aug 26, 2011 20:26:27 : Craigslist sends C&D to jaxed.com
By: jaXed
The jaXed Mash has been presented with a "CEASE AND DESIST UNLAWFUL MISUSE OF CRAIGSLIST" from attorneys representing Craigslist. In the C&D, The jaXed Mash was cited for violating the Craigslist Terms of Use. Cragislist has demanded that The jaXed Mash remove all Craigslist listing titles, and cease to index Craigslist listings in the future.

At this time, we are removing all Craigslist links from The jaXed Mash.

We know most of you come here specifically to search for stuff nationwide in the US and Canada. It is unfortunate that we will not be able to offer Craigslist as a source of data any longer.

The next few days and weeks we will be looking at merging new sources of data into The jaXed Mash. It makes sense to find smaller niche sites and forums and work with those sites to bring their listings to The jaXed Mash. If you know of any sites that you would like The jaXed Mash to index, drop us a line via Email, Facebook or Twitter (@jaxed).

As problematic as Craigslist can be, the price is still right. It is becoming increasingly frustrating for me, but it still beats ebay. Thanks for sharing the information.

eBay owns a 25% stake in Craigslist. That's enough reason to worry.

yep, I have used Jaxed.

There are other search engines though. There is a 'Statewide' CL search engine that I use also.

Probably all for the better.

Maybe I'll stop wasting so much time searching for the "next" project.

I've already got a line of builds, even after downsizing two thirds of the stable.

What worries me is that the lawyer-types will be sending a similar cease-and-desist to yousuckatcraigslist.com - that's always been a great page to visit for a few belly-laughs after a long, hard day.

It's anther extension of Ebay. If only there were other sources, ea UBID, not the same or lacks the worldwide audience that Ebay commands. That's Reaganomics, let the market dictate, like 2008. Capitalism is competition, this is more like socialism no competition!

What was Jaxed doing that Google isn't?

Was it caching copies of the ads?

+1

I am not clear how Jaxed was violating CL terms of usage.

+1 I don't get the difference between jaxed and other aggregators.

I have also been having trouble with CL ads even appearing lately.

And maybe it makes me a hippie or commie, but I can't regard eBay's interest in CL as benign. As a user my experience on eBay has gotten steadily worse, though I admit that its scaling means that more and more is available.

Godfrey Daniels! Site mash was great. I'd get contacts from potential buyers long after my listing was buried on CL by the massive amounts of bikes for sale in SoCal. I guess I'll have to engage in top posting now. Let the flagging wars begin.
