Raleigh Super Record - Date?

Hi all!
This is my first post in this forum, and I am definitely a bike newbie, so forgive me if I'm asking a dumb question.

I recently acquired a Raleigh Super Record bike, and am curious about when it was made. I took down the serial number and checked the Sheldon Brown site, which narrowed the year to either 1976 or 1986, but as for narrowing it further, the site simply said that it needs to be looked at by someone who can recognize differences in appearance. Perhaps someone on here is that person (or so I hope!)

Anyhow, the serial number is: RE6 13867, which I take to mean that it was made in Canada in the spring of '76 or ' 86.

A picture of the bike can be found at http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...type=1&theater.

Any input would be appreciated!!

I don't use the facebooks, nor Twit, so I can't view those pics., sorry. I'm not sure what a Raleigh Super Record is (there was a Super Grand Prix, as well as a gaspipe Record in the team colors), but if you mean a 531 Record in the red/yellow/black Team colors, that is/was a European-market-only 531-tubed replica frame. Pretty decent piece, that.... :thumb:

My apologies, here are the pictures themselves. It's definitely called a "Super Record," but it may have another name of some sort attached to it that is no longer printed on the bike itself. It's not a Grand Prix or the other type you mentioned, as far as I can tell, but I'm definitely not experienced with this, so I could be wrong! What do you think?

Well, I took a look through some of these catalogs but didn't see anything exactly like it. I also took a quick look at raleigh super record images on google and still didn't see an exact match. Hopefully someone else can help you out with the year.

Raleigh USA model post-1986. What's the first digit of the serial?

Thanks for the replies! :D I've been having trouble googling it as well. :\

Definitely 1986, not 1976 (if those are the only choices).

Whoops; my mistake. Went straight to the photos.

It's either a 1986 or 1987 (built 1986) model made in Canada, for the Canadian market only.

Thanks!! That helps a lot! It was basically a question of "70's o 80's?" so thanks for the input. I'm glad to have a date for it.

Plus...I was born in 1986...so my bike and I are roughly the same age! Hahaha. Awesome.

I have a 1981 Raleigh Super Record. According to this Yellow Jersey web page, they were built for Raleigh in Osaka, Japan, and were eventually replaced by the Raleigh Olympian in 1983. I don't think Raleigh's numbering system applied to the Japanese-built bikes, but I'm guessing that the Super Records were produced from around 1980 to 1982.

Actually, now that I'm home from work and can now see the images the OP posted, this is definitely not an early 80s Super Record -- from the graphics on the downtube, it's probably late 80s!
