replacement for lost dust-caps?
 

I have a pair of SR (sakai) pedals that I love but one has lost a dust-cap. I initially thought I would replace it with a KKT dust-cap, but it turns out the KKT is larger. Incidentally the SR pedal dust-cap is the same size as a SR crank dust-cap. However the crank cap does not work (regardless of the fact that dust would still be able to get in) when the pedal is assembled because of the protruding nut.

Does anyone know of a makeshift replacement for pedal dust-caps? I really like my old pedals, and don't want to spend money on new ones that I'll have to get accustomed to. Or should I just shamefully ride it without a cap and repack it more often?

I've ridden for years without dustcaps on my cranks........I confess,...because the Pros did so!:rolleyes::D
But really, what would a little dust in there hurt anyway? If anything, most caps can catch and retain water from their slots and holes, which can then maybe corrode the steel mounting bolt head and maybe threads going into the spindle that's in contact with the Al crank??

Would nice, screw on European aluminum beer bottle or wine bottle caps fit??

Actually, I've got a pair of vintage pedals I picked up just because someone had crimped some 1960's or so Falstaff bottle caps on. Otherwise there's absolutely nothing special about them!
