Gap in headset

So, I've got a 1992 Cdale that I'm trying to freshen up and make my own. I've removed the cateye reflector from the front. It was held on by acting as a washer between the headset and the locknut. Now that I've removed the reflector I've got a gap between the locknut and the headset. Seems likely that the headset will eventually work its way loose this way. What's the deal? Do I need a locknut with more threads? Am I missing something here?

No, you can get a washer or a thin spacer at an LBS. If you have a local bike co-op all the better. They usually have tons of headset parts. DO NOT ride the bike with the headset in that condition.

If you get stuck for finding one PM me I can get you one cheap plus cost of a stamp (like < $1 total).

Yeah, I wasn't about to ride it like this. Thanks for the confirmation and the offer. I'll see what the lbs has. Seems kind of silly that the locknut would bottom out without a piece that a lot of people would likely remove.
