ID Lugs ? - Cinelli Riviera and Galatti Road Bikes
 

Can anyone identify these Lugs ?
My frameset has these lugs.
My search to ID these lugs has discovered some interesting facts.
1. The 1963 Cinelli Riviera has these lugs
2. Apparently the Cinelli Riviera was a rebadged Garlatti. Garlatti bikes have these lugs
3. The 1959 Umberto Dei has these lugs
4. Also the fork crown is distinctive and is the same that is seen on both the Galmozzi and an Ideor Asso.

Wondering who would have made these lugs and crown in the 1950s ?

Does anyone know who made these Fork Crowns ?

only a couple wild guesses: Agrati or Emilio Bozzi...how I wish that the excellent reference from R. Sachs and Pope had not evaporated from the internet. This is just the kind of question it could have answered, but...no...:(
They bear a slight resemblance to a Haden and the Nervex Serie Legere lug, but only slight.

Thanks for the great leads. I tried to track down a Sachs/Pope link and found lots of photostreams on Flikr. Here is a link to a 1958 Nervex catalogue. I think there is a good chance that my lugs are Nervex Serie Legere pattern 45 nozzle cut 158.

Could this be correct ?

I noticed the similarity to the front of the 45/159 Serie Legere, but that was the stock pattern, any 45/158 would have been a special order and, in addition, the 158 nozzle portion looks shorter than on the Italian lugs shown. I think given that they are all Italian marques (and some less than top-end models) they would not have used imported French lugs. I think they are some kind of Italian make, but I can't be more specific without good reference pics of Agrati or Bozzi lugs, which I don't have.

Thanks for the help, yes that makes sense. My searching so far hasn't turned up very much for Agrati or Bozzi lugs, so I will keep looking.

Bozzi lugsets
 

I have a few Bozzi lugsets in my collection. I have placed pictures on Velobase.

Because Emilio Bozzi owned the companies Legnano, Frejus and Wolsit, they were often found in these bikes. They were offered for sale to any other company. I think the crude blancs were produced for more then 30 years, before the War. Patterns cut from the nozzles varied througout the years and give different looks, but the raw lugs were hardly changed.

Lugs are part of an Agrati ensemble called "ROMA"; it is part number ART. 000.8020/E/U.

Upper head lug is part number N. 000.8024.

Lower head lug is part number N.000.8023.

Seat lug is part number N. 005.8059.

Bottom bracket shell is part number N. 005.8057.

Crown is Agrati as well but do not have number.

well, after 4 years you can't get a better answer (complete with item numbers) than THAT...thanks to juvela for closing the book on this case!
