Thank you and bless you, Coleman. (cehowardGS)
One less Irongent, to coin texaspandj's phrase.
Coleman was one super man. That says it all. He will be watching us.
When I build a bike, I'll smile, and think about his thing for "deep wheels, Robbie, gotta have those deep rims!"
The first time I saw his thick whitewall tires, I told him he had to be from Cleveland. Man, we laughed about that.
He liked bikes, but he liked a lot of things. The Ironman appealed to him; he liked the 'tude, the name, and the ride.
This is a man who drove to Boys Town to adopt two teenagers. Out of the blue. He stayed there until it was a done deal.
For a while, his wife wouldn't let him drive this far to see me. She'd roll her eyes at the bikes. We'd laugh. She was a sport.
He came down once to stay in Raleigh, was supposed to show at 8 am the next morning. He didn't show but I didn't worry.
Seems his hosts fried up a bunch of fish for him, and he got a 1" bone stuck in his tongue, had to go to the ER. We laughed at that, too.
First time I built him a bike, I had my brother-in-law deliver it. They met at Baltimore Harbor. My brother-in-law was looking for a cyclist. Coleman showed up in red tights under black shorts, a red long-sleeved Fila top, and high-top leather Chucks. It was cold. He had his normal surplus military jacket, he had a thing for them, too. My brother-in-law was a little confused, but in 5 minutes, he was amazed.
Coleman actually talked the armorers at Quantico to look after his pistols. They don't do that for many people, sure as heck wouldn't do that for me. I'll bet they met him, and offered, I know for sure he'd never ask them outright. The man was a human bridge to good nature.
Ironman Nation will miss him. Then again, he's here. I can tell. I thank him for the many good vibes he gave off. Just a positive man.

Amen. I included him in my riding prayers for a long time, did so today before I read this.
Rock on, Coleman. Rock on.

Just sharing my newly reconditioned 1986 Centurion Ironman 52cm. Also upgraded the bottom bracket to Tange sealed, Shimano 600 50/34T chainrings and Schwalbe Durano 700x23c tires.

When the dust settles, and I can think straight, I'll finish cehowardGS's bucket list Ironman.
All red and black, no bling. A red Master Blaster, he would say. Then, I'll figure out where it goes.
He just wanted brifters, black stuff, and deep wheels, on a red Ironman frame. No problem.
At 60cm, I'm not riding it, that's for sure.
I have my '85 Raleigh Racing USA Competition, my "Coleman made me do it" bike, just like his.
It's in lieu of an '85 Ironman, and will stay so. That spot in my "lineup" is now set for life.
I'll still troll, eventually, for an '86 and an '87, to fill out my spots. The '85 spot is for the Raleigh.

I really dig the dark wheels, and dark consumables contrasting with the red/white.

My '88 Purple Haze bought a couple months ago off CL w/o wheels, mtb stem, rotten housing... Converted to 9 speed microshift on sale at Nashbar for $62 w/ cables & housing. Fun bike. Been commuting on it for the last month.

Very nice, way to make it your own. I have the same 88 purple rain frame, they're light and right. And on my other 88 master I have those same wheels, they are durable, you never need to true them. Thanks for showing off...I mean sharing. Congratulations.
