sounds like a request for '88's.
So I'll play. I missed the '87 roll call, just didn't get it the idea. OK, I'm slow. Bite Me.
Purple Haze, 1988 "Master". 9sp DA w/Rolfs. If it does not look like rain, this bike will climb Thunder Ridge again on Sunday. I broke 2 spokes on the rear wheel, so it's running Velocity Deep V rims on Origin8 hubs, paired spokes, but this time, 32 rear, 24 front. I'll have the Rolfs back on once I get them re-tensioned. Given the very high tension on them, I want it done by a pro.
Silk.
1988 "Expert" and I don't remember the nickname. Suntour GPX and it was a sweetie. 3TTT Forma bars, only ergos that ever fit my hands. I have no idea what possessed me to mount a $60 Blackburn Amber cage on a 23 lb bike.
Go ahead, let the looks fool you.
And the '88 Ironman Carbon. I swapped out the fork, and installed 9sp Ultegra, including wheelset. This was ridden 100% on the drops, note the odd seatpost (25.0). I tried lots of different wheels on Ironman Carbon frames, and the Carbon-R. Very light wheels simply don't work. The reassuring "footprint" of something in the 1400-1700g range is about right for me.
Yeah, '88 was a good year.
Well page 188 and time to post your '88 if you have one. The "squiggly" graphics set the '88 apart. Also first year for tricolor components on the masters and beginning of the fade color schemes. Only year a Carbon model was offered. The Carbon Ironman has the Centurion name on the down tube and seat tube, and here's mine.

"Photo is not exact bike. Actual bike is all red, otherwise looks the same." Sure. If so, I'd buy it.
That's definitely my bike. Thanks, fleslider!

An 88 Expert
Currently undergoing paint touch-up for the summer! (but those white/red fade sections of the frame are a SOB)

And also, I'm looking for someone to facilitate it to me. I met Deal4Fuji last night at the Ride of Silence, great guy, 6'5" and he wants an Ironman. He was on a Lotus Excelle, by the way. The pics are from the owner, and he sounds like a nice guy.

^^^ thanks Robbie, I didn't want one until I started following this thread and the sticky Ironman info thread. It was really great meeting you and @brianinc-ville last night !! You were as nice and helpful as I've heard (from 3speedslow) and read about here. I found out Brian was a former college radio DJ, so I'm trying to recruit him to WFOO on the BF dial C&V was represented pretty well with your ghost white Raleigh and Brian's '61 Atala that he commuter-ized. I'm not worthy to be in this kind of company and don't know why we didn't get a group photo, but I was able to get some fuzzy screen shots from the local news report. It was a really nice ride and it was cool to hear a smattering of applause occasionally. Here's Robbie, Brian & myself, (the blur)

That 85 looks like a 64 cm so basically 63 cm c to c, should still work for 6'5" lessen you have shorter legs. I'm also looking for a '85 but the Silver and way smaller 54cm.
But for sure that red '85 looks good and hope it works out with a facilitator.

56 cm frame/fork inbound. Likely the headset, too.
The one shown by 3speedslow, a repaint. I have decals for it, white letters, silver logo, and Tange frame stickers.
I am going to need a 54cm frame. Will not need the fork and it will be painted.....so cosmetics are not an issue.
Ironman frames only. I need to keep the soul intact.

Now that you mentioned it, it is actually a 1985 and in really good shape, and either 60 or 62cm.
And also, I'm looking for someone to facilitate it to me. I met Deal4Fuji last night at the Ride of Silence, great guy, 6'5" and he wants an Ironman. He was on a Lotus Excelle, by the way. The pics are from the owner, and he sounds like a nice guy.

Yay '89!
My '89 is everything you'd want in a road bike, its light, right and full of fight. It's stable yet responsive, " the Ironman conundrum". I love the way it accelerates when you jump on it. I just happen to use it for triathlon time trials.

Currently I'm riding 26 miles M,W,F solo on my '89 (with aero bars). But on Saturdays I ride my '88 Ironman Carbon (with road bars) with the guy who bought my old '88. On Sundays I ride 50 miles solo on my '89.
But those Saturday rides with the newbie are just like riding with the bike group in that he rides fast and occasionally tries to drop me. So I hang on, then when he let's off I drop him out of pay back. He spins so smoothly that when he accelerates I have to jump to stay on his wheel as I'm not a sprinter. It's basically like doing intervals, but it's just he's such a smooth spinner its difficult to detect when he decides to hammer.
On those Saturdays (as I've said), I use my '88 Ironman Carbon. And @RobbieTunes, I've felt it shimmy (twice), I felt the forks spring as I stood to climb a slight incline (once), and my bottom bracket has moved enough to make my FD rub as I seated ridden a long incline (several times). But none of those things happened enough to matter to me or stop me from using the '88 Ironman Carbon for group rides.
I don't plan on changing the forks however I'd like to get some 8 speed STI shifters.
