Well I would attribute it to finally, a break in the weather and excited to get that vintage carbon out on the road for a soul satisfying ride. Sounds great. We're happy for you.
Boy it was windy here today too. But only 20-25 mph and 65 degrees. I was on my 86 classic set up as a tri bike. It's the only bike that has always been ready to ride. When all my other bikes were in some form of transformation I could always count on it. (Sounds like a love story) But now that all my bikes are ready to roll that means I can finally overhaul it. So now the question. In what order should I overhaul the components? I was thinking hubs, headset,Bottom bracket.

today RAIN. rode Redman and got fully soaked. I also purchased a bike of CL and Redman might be going through another transformation due to some new parts in the bin! The bike was super cheap and had Kysrium wheels that I am hoping to sell off for the price of the bike and ill be left with some ultegra cranks rd fd and 105 dual pivot brakes (black which i like) as well as tri bars... which I am considering..

I thought Redman already had ultegra? What hubs are on the Kysrium wheels? What type of aero bars? Since I'm asking so many questions, I've always wondered, what wheels are on Redman?

hah. i may do the switch on sunday. redman has ultegra except the RD and cranks but I am trying to build up my LOOK frame now and I have a mix of 105, ultegra, dura-ace parts that are on redman and on the donor bike to swap around to see which looks best on each bike. I have enough 9 speed ultegra to make one bike full ultegra, and the other a mishmash, or do both a mash. we will see.

redman has TITAN wheels, fairly cheap but also fairly decent. The Kysrium are probably better but I don't like the look and I can get more money for em they are the second tier Elite hubs and spokes.

I finished up the 1988 Ironman, too small for me, that I had the frame and fork listed in the for sale section. Fortunately, a 1988 donor bike appeared with full 105 components, giving me the missing pieces.

The Ironman moved to a new home yesterday.

The only gripe about the Titan's is the truing. Keep them true, a little Loctite, and they're good wheels for the money.

I have been tempted to get another set, but i got a super deal on a set of Reynolds solitude SE that i could not pass up. I am still a bit on the fence about selling the reynolds or the kysrium: which one to use on the Look frame. the Kysrium win on being french, even say "made in france" on them. and I have a mavic headset on a look frame... so the whole french thing...

but again i like the reynolds better as far as looks. ill try them all out and see.

This one's a bit high as generally they're about 300-350 around here. . But check out the condition.
Mens Adult Centurion Road Racing Bike Bicycle 54 cm Frame Shimano 600
Plus it's a master, and in my experience it's the best components (OEM) on any year CIM.
My size ,however not my price.

i agree. bang for the buck the 105 was probably the better deal, but the 600 is so very pretty.

Well, with nothing else to be done, not even cables and wrap, perhaps it's borderline high.
That's if a person wants to ride that Turbo and use that wrap. Not really.

Surely I'd change that wrap, but that saddle is great for my posterior end. Of course everyone has their favorite and its subjective. Admittedly I haven't had a lot of experience with other saddles. In fact today I'm going on my long ride with a saddle I've never used before.
But you can't disagree with those components. They're 7 speed, and shift as well as the 80s dura ace on my 86 classic. And the brakes, especially those SLR levers would be hard to beat. But the best part is the wheels. So smooth and so light ,you immediately feel the difference compared to the OEM wheels on other models. I'm beginning to sound like a salesman, mainly to myself. It is my size afterall.

I really like the all red frame on this one , maybe a chrome fork to go with it ?

ok. nearly on page 2 so here is a bump and a pic. for those who might have been worried, I did not change redman today. I found enough parts to build up the Look without swapping (and i bought some more dura ace 7400 cranks to go on it! my favorite)

here she is ready to tackle grizzly peak, which we did last night.

I wasn't worried, but I was hoping you'd put the ultegra crankset on redman and make it all ultegra. I see now, you prefer the DA crankarms. They look good.

I almost did, but since I got another set of the 7400 i probably won't. but I will keep the ultegra cranks so I can have a complete set. they are pretty nice.. but i love me the 7400.

i cant go full ultegra anyway as i only have short cage ultegra RDs... and with all the hills I am attacking I need to keep the XTR rd so I don't die.

Went on my long ride yesterday. It was a 60 miler, it was sunny and 75 but with gust of up to 20 mph.I was on my 88 tri setup purple haze. And coincidentally was listening to a rebroadcast of Casey Kasem top 40 count down of Jan 30 1988. I always go out and back as it's an honest effort. My fitness is currently only at about 50-55 percent. So my average speed was 15 mph. I was at the tail end of the ride when I passed 3 cyclist going the opposite direction. We waived at each other. A few minutes later one of them came blowing by me. So my ego got the best of me and I took off after him. I caught him and told him I was on his wheel . He was at a steady 22 mph. I felt surprisingly comfortable as we rolled along. He didnt say anything to me but pointed out debris on the road so he was cool with me on his wheel. Then he sped up to 24 mph, I shifted and tucked in closer, and we rolled. We were approaching the last down hill which led to the last climb. I knew I couldn't stay with him on that climb and thought about trying to drop him before the climb. But he increased to 30 mph going down that hill and I pulled up beside him heading up the climb. And weirdly that's when he decided to conversate. We got about 3/4 up the hill when my lack of fitness told on me and I fell back. At the top of the hill he let off and I pulled up beside him and we rode side by side into town.
He is a sophomore at the local private college. Said he's lost weight since cycling, and we rolled and talked biking. He was a cool kid. He was riding a cannondale and said that was some good riding and I said you too, then he said especially on that steel bike.
On the first Monday of Jan I began training and weighed in at 193.I weigh myself every Monday. This morning I weighed in at 188. So I've lost 5 pounds in 4 weeks. At my current rate I'll lose 20 pounds by the May race I'm keying on. But I need to lose 30. I think I'll adjust my diet and also not eat so Dang much.
That college kid pushed my AVS to 15.something, however I still rode 60 miles in about 4 hrs. I remember riding a century in 4:29 that was 25 yrs ago and most importantly 40 pounds ago. Later Iron Gents.

Hey guys , sorry I hijacked the thread on my last post. The fact is, maybe that story belonged on a "Where did you ride today" thread or something of that nature. But some of the other forum members are negative and if you're on this thread, you have, love, want,or lust after a CIM and that automatically makes you cool in my book. So I posted it here where I think it would be appreciated.
Backstory: I'm a small business owner, and stay at home dad/trophy husband. Although in this case my wife is 20 yrs younger than me. Since almost all of my work is in the evening (6pm-8pm) and my wife works during the day. Most of my adult conversations is played out on this forum. Perhaps I'm oversharing.
So here is my two 88s. Both were after 30 mile rides hence the water bottles, saddle bags, pumps and dirt. Of note, one set up as tri and the other as road, both are 52 cm, have identical pedal to top of saddle length(as they have different crankarm size), all walmart black cable housing, however shimano gear cables on the shifters. The yellow fade has walmart bar wrap, cages, mini frame pump, saddle bag and soon cyclemeter. The purple haze has walmart wrap, and cages. Cateye wireless strada and soon zephal mini frame pump. The bottles are freebies from races.
Although it doesn't look like it, those saddles are pretty much maxed out.

I like the side by side with the same backdrop. if one could do like 10 of those in a row all with different colors it would make a great thing. not sure what sort of thing.. but it would be great! and as far as I am concerned, any post which relates to riding an IM works here. pictures a plus!

what I learned on my last IM ride was that taking Claremont down from the oakland hills at 10pm is very fast and VERY dark. I need to get a serious light before I do that again.
