Relatively, yes. There was one in Seattle CL back when I was contemplating getting my 88. It was my size, it was in excellent condition, and 350.00 my price. Also I have a close friend in Seattle. But the guy wouldn't return response. So.
RT owned one at some point. Reportedly two models were available. One with dura ace. However I never saw one with full dura ace.

I knew as soon as I bought another frameset (not an Ironman) a Miami Vice in my size would come along.

Mark, it's rare, but it's NOT a Dave Scott Ironman Carbon. It's a Centurion Carbon, still an '88 model, so you could get decals that work on the DT, seat stays, etc. I had 3 of the Ironman Carbon models, and have looked closely at a "straight" carbon model, so I think I can elaborate some.

The frames are likely either identical or very close; I simply don't know. The Ironman Carbon was really tight at the back wheel, like...25's may not have fit....Cllimbing hard or braking into a tight downhill corner, it was liable to rub, either on a chainstay or fork. The Carbon model, well, I have little reason to believe it's much different. Straight line, especially centuries, wow, super comfy ride. My 56cm model had a bad "gyro" effect on the front wheel; I never figured it out. Loved the frames as a builder. I wouldn't do a crit on one, or any balls-on triathlon with tight corners, and sure not in TT/Tri setup.

The Ironman Carbon version had full Dura-Ace kit. The "straight" Carbon model had 6400 series tricolor kit. That would be the main difference, but I've never seen the wheels that came on the Ironman Carbon. The Ironman Carbon was lighter, and a noodle. The "straight" Carbon was light enough, and also a noodle. The smaller frames were stiffer, simply by design (shorter tubes).

It's rare, but it needs a lot of work to be anything near original. I don't think the fork decals are available, nor are the decals for the frame that are different from the Ironman steel decals (head tube, on the front, and seat tube, on the rear.)

I think it is very reasonable for around 150. shipped . Problem is though I think RT is cookin' up a deal as we speak for a complete bike plus a spare Dura Ace wheel set for 300. , well add ship too , so whatever that's going to be . Point is why buy a frame when you can buy a complete bike for a little more .... Because I have a grupo and all I need is a frame , he said .

I just filled him in on the difference between that and the Ironman model. Perhaps he'll come down some.

Yeah I saw the first pic and didn't look at the other ones (dang cheap phone). But I actually only vaguely remember an ad in triathlete magazine. I do remember a review and ad on the carbon CIM. I'll try to find it and post it.
When I got out of the scene the new Era of carbon fiber was beginning. I particularly remember treks 5500 or something like that. I was envious and disappointed. The sport was moving beyond my financial priorities.
But before that time triathletes were willing to try anything and on the cutting-edge.
In particular, I was at a early season sprint triathlon in the dfw area. And I asked lance why wasn't he riding his kestrel? (The premier carbon fiber one piece frame) He said he had cracked the frame at the bottom bracket but it was in his garage. He was 17 and riding a steel bike he knew he couldn't break.

Thats a cool bike -- it looks like the previous owner (or owners) really raided the parts bins when keeping that thing together though -- LOL (looks like something i would have come up with to ride when i was a broke Cat 4 )

if its anything like my old kg96 then while it may be a noodle, its a fun seat of your pants downhill skiing through cars sort of noodle.

those early carbon frames were something else.

Probably one of the best crit bikes I've built, right there with a Cannondale SC800 and the Wraith Hustle.
This one could easily have been the lightest of the three, if I'd have used the components from the Hustle.
Stiffness was on par with both, steering same as the similar quill setup on the Cannondale.
The Hustle had it beat by 1.5 lbs and stiffness on the headset, but acceleration was "right now.

Definitely not a long-ride bike, though. The saddle and stiffness would wear you out if you were not on the power constantly.

FYI, for those looking for headseats with a 27mm crown race and short enough stack height.

Amazon.com : Tange-Seiki Tange Levin CDS 1" Threaded Headset, Black : Bike Headsets And Accessories : Sports & Outdoors

Also, if you want an all black headset, buy both the JIS silver and the ISO black, just use the crown race from the JIS silver one.

Sounds like you got want you've been looking for. Update pic once you put it on. I'm sure everyone here would appreciate it. Anyway, you're the one who said you didn't take a great pic the first time.

I've taken the bait Robbie Tunes and bought my first Centurion IM Expert, and of course it had to be the 1987 Miami Vice. I'm already used to those colors with my magenta Vitus 979 and my yellow Viscount Gran Touring. Kinda like they had a baby. The forum trolling has been invaluable in getting me up to speed on the profile of the lineup. Thanks! I've been heavily immersed in my (please don't laugh!) Viscount forum Home | Viscount & Lambert Bikes and collection the past few years and this group has that same hard core enthusiasm. Love it.

About the bike, I normally ride c-t 60cm so I can manage OK on this 62. It's a CL lister from Ca and appears pretty original except the wheel set and saddle. No rust just scratches. It's been sitting in a garage the past 20+ years after being a USC student bike purchased at Bikeology in Santa Monica. Somehow it ended up with Weinman 2719 rims with KK sealed bearing hubs, and the rear is a bolt on that looks to be 130mm. Ouch. If I'm correct, those wheels appeared on some lower grade Centurions and are fairly heavy so maybe the dealer swapped it out. Maybe I've got a cold set 130mm space frame after all these years? So many ways to go after seeing what's been done by others. New wheels? Upgrade to free hubs? Go to 7 speed? Yellow cable housing? So many questions. Either way, I'll keep the DT shifters. It'll make a nice winter project.

Cool CIM. Nice frame to start your journey in the trilight zone.
I'm happy for you and also curious about that rear derailleur.
Yes it's true, that ironman you have is very versatile and I'm sure we're all waiting to see what direction you take.
Pretty sure R.T. will be around shortly to certify you. In the meantime congratulations and welcome to the forum.

Well that one went fast. I'm used to seeing Viscounts sit for a while on ebay. This is something new for me.

Thanks for the welcome! The RD is in fact a Shimano 105. Recently picked up NOS toeclips for the pedals so I'll keep the 105 theme going.

I've not seen those wheels before, but perhaps the rider on a 62cm was worried about the strength of the Wolbers? A long time ago, I hit a sewer grate and messed up a rear wheel, LBS said "get a Weinmann and stop worrying." I'm sure I wasn't the only one...

Although I never considered building a single speed especially out of an Ironman, this looks like a perfect candidate. Of course, if all the braze on are still there, then just another road bike.
Looks like a 85 that's been sprayed or left outside and sun bleached on one side. Still, that's a good price. I think I'd clean it, clear coat it and turn it into an outstanding road bike. Well providing that rust on the tt doesn't go all the way thru. Wait. Is that rust? Are the bosses still there? Hard to tell with those pics.
Talk about an 80s paint job. I actually do dig this frame, however I think I'm highly influenced by the price.

Yep, great price on a Mini-Me frame. Cheap enough to blast and paint. Heck, get the RobbieTunes decal set from VeloCals....

Lol great allusion. Maybe it's my most recent experience speaking to me, but the fact that someone removed nearly everything on this frame except the stem and left crank arm either tells me they weren't using the proper tools to begin with, weren't terribly dedicated to stripping the frame, OR that stuff is frozen/stripped. The bike I just worked on had a frozen stem and MAN was that a bear to remove. Took me 3 or 4 days of PB blaster and lots and lots of working it, and then ultimately a second guy to wrench it free (one rotating the frame with the stem locked in a vice, horizontally, while the other had a foot on the workbench pulling the frame away from the vice, and using legs to push off the bench). It was like a crossfit workout. Anywho, the sight of that rust on the headtube just has me wondering....

Ok. How bout this.
R.T. here's your chance to get your 87. However not a Miami Vice. Well at least it's a master.
Hey PaintitCeleste, at least on this one less risk.
If that other 55 dollar Ironman were in Texas like this one is, I'd take a chance and get it. But definitely wouldn't powder coat. I think putting some very modern components on it would do it justice. Like this. I could just see me showing up with these parts on that old frame. I'm mean I'd put them on a Italian frame ,so why not an ironman. Someone's gone off the deep end. And I'm not one to point fingers but my thumbs will do. (IT'S ME).
