Yes @Unkle Rico converted his Ironman into a 650 b. I can't seem to find a pic but as I recall it was an Miami Vice Ironman. What's yours?

Uncle Rico, what brakes did you use for your converted IM?

Since we're at page 186 seems like a good time to post your '86 Classic Ironman. Except for the original 600 brake calipers and non original but same year 600 aero levers, it's pretty much all dura ace. I believe the '86 was the best year, the forks, the "classic" color schemes. Here's mine, still sporting the cheap bell chain.

YES!!!!! Dude, this is awesome. That thing looks like an absolute blast! What tires are those ? Interesting to hear you say those are 38 wide and you still have room. I have some brakes on the way so I'm good there, I think the last piece of the puzzle will be my derailleur.
MY current tri-color has a 7 speed uniglide I believe.......inbound 650b wheels will be hyperglide. I 'think' i'll be alright.....but I'm assuming I'll have to get fairly similar gearing cassette so derailleur will work.
Thanks again for chimming in. Sweet ride !

Thanks!
They are Soma Xpress 650bx38's, a wonderful tire. Just was out in the garage and i'd say i have about 1 cm of clearance on each side in the lower chain stay and a little less in the front.
The rims are Pacenti's and the hubs are BHS hubs -- not sure which ones honestly. Bought the wheelset used. Takes a normal cassette, running a 10sp ultregra dealio with 105 bar end shifters -- crank is FSA with a smaller outer chainring. I might strip off my 6800 ultregra stuff from my Look bike and throw it on the IM but we'll see.

New-to-me 1988 black Dave Scott Expert
Hello, and its great to have a reason to join a road bike forum. It's been years since I have owned a road bike, so this Centurion is just what I need. Purchased it this morning, from a gentleman up north of here. Very nice guy and everything went well. I immediately took it to my local shop, to buy a set of Shimano clip peddles, and they agreed that this Centurion was in good shape. It's rolling on some pretty narrow tires right now, but when it's time to get new, I'll have 23's mounted. The wheels are of different manufacture, but look identical to each other. The bar tape is going to get re-taped in a while, and that will be an interesting color decision. A point that the shop clarified for me was that the left gear lever was, and is suppose to be of the friction style, while the right lever is indexed. I had not seen that mentioned in any of the sites. I'll wait for a rainy day to give it a clean-up, but after years on the mountain bike, it feels real good to get back up to speed.
O' What's the trick to dragging and dropping photo's from my iMac?

That black Ironman (black dog) is a '89 expert. It's the only year that the Ironman used Suntour components. Which btw I'm not familiar with. Either way sounds like fun.

texaspandj, nice to meet my first reply. I went to this mornings sale thinking that this Centurion was a 1989 model, from the pictures and writings that I could find. When I checked the frame numbers, the second digit is an 8. Is it true, as I have since seen suggested on this site, that the frame could be a 1989 model, sold in 1989, but actually manufactured and therefore stamped in late 1988? It does have all of the other 1989 components. (N8N5919 = Manufacturer or model designation, 1988, 28th week, 5919th frame built)

Two visuals about your bike. The saddle looks cool. Leather, the shape and the color all make for a nice classic style look. The front black-with-white chain rings add a uniqueness to the whole drive train. As I look at your color scheme, and all of the others, my new black seems so toned down. Maybe I can create something with new bar tape, or just wear more colorful bike garb. As soon as I can figure out how to post pictures, I will. Their not being accepted when dragged from my iPhoto or from the desktop.

Well, finally figured out how to post photo's (they had to be size reduced thru the "file-export" process) but now I'm told that I can't post URL's until I have 10 posts. As soon as that happens, I'll do it again.
