Picked up a Diamondback last summer. I like the orange version better. Someone here had a white with black smoke that was pretty damn cool

They are panaracer paselas tourguard Kevlar 700 x 25c. I got them from a bike I bought on CL. You know me, reuse, refurbish, remodel,rebuild, repurpose, re.....well I'll just say I'm thrifty.
The tires were old enough to where I can't find a match online ir at least not an exact match. Seems they change things up to keep up,with fads and the like...that's how they stay in the money, (there's a lesson in there I'm not paying attention to ). I really like them, enough to where I'm trying to replace them with same brand. I like tan walls but not on every bike I have but definitely this one.
As I said the tires were old when I got them and I think the 2 mile section of chip seal I have to deal with on my normal route helped them bite the dust. Funny thing, my wife says what's the big deal just ride one of your others. But I dislike having one of my bikes not rode ready, as an added, I don't care for having mismatched tires either...it just irks me.
Oh btw, I replaced the blown tire with another to ride Monday, and on the 2 mile stretch of chip seal, when I had a blow out on the replacement tire . The tire was shot and patched the tube twice and still had another hole, so trashed it too.

Try a set of Continental Ultra Sport II in 700x25. They're tough and really good for only about $15 each. That's what I've been using on my Ironman for a year. Good on chipsnail too.

I usually run that size 85-90 psi rear, 75 front. So far, so good. This set is more than a year old with plenty of life in them.

They've even been adequate on some crushed limestone gravel paths, when group rides take those. Normally I'd avoid gravel with slick tires.

I put Ultra Sport II 700x23 on the Trekenstein but it's a little more harsh riding on chipsnail pavement.

And they're good on the indoor trainer. The metal roller on the Cycleops doesn't chew them up.

They're so similar, it looks like the factory must have just opened the next drum of paint, found it to be different, and used it anyhow.

Somehow in the span of a year I've got three orange bikes. My MTB was on purpose because I liked the color. My trike was the only thing like that available in my local used market when I was shopping and I didn't care about the color because I don't intend to keep it forever. Now this. If I'd chosen a color to have all my bikes it would have been Toyota Speedway Blue.

Thanks for the tip. Looking at the descriptions and reviews, looks like my kind of buy. However, they don't come in tanwall, I need tanwall for my Classic ala Markwesti.
Bottom line, I'm gonna have to buy some new tires, something I haven't done since 2011.

Then do yourself a favor and buy some GOOD ones. Tanwall Vittoria Corsa's are out there for $32 each, so are Panaracer GK's (altho they are more brownwall than tanwall). You will definitely notice the difference- in traction, in speed, in ride quality. Remarkably flat resistant as well.

Yeah, they'll wear out in a couple thousand miles, but you'll be smiling the whole time.

It's a clincher. When I first got my Classic, I sold almost all the original parts on ebaay then bought replacement parts (dura ace). Including a set of clinchers and a set of sew ups, both with dura ace hubs. My goal was to train on the clinchers then use the sew ups for club rides. But then I decided to just go back to triathlons. So I dismantled the sew ups and sold the dura ace hubs. That left me with rims and spokes. It's a good thing because today heading out on my ride I broke a spoke (first one ever). So I'll use one of those spokes.
So to add it all up for the Classic; Monday gash in tire, then replace tire, then blowout in that tire.
Wednesday on Classic, replaced both tires with my '89 Ironmans tires, then broke spoke.
The disconcerting thing is that the Classic is my favorite and my most reliable....and it will be again.

In late '89 at the U.S. Triathlon Series Championship, Mike Pigg can be seen riding a Blue and White Diamond Back. I have it on video. I was hoping the DB gad the summertime blues color scheme but as I recall it actually looked more like this (color scheme wise).

Not original fork or headset. Bike was not wrecked. PO bought it off the bay. Maybe the original headset was prone to failure and different size bearings/races than standard. Who knows?

Great score. Original headset was difficult, in the least. Couldn't use wrenches, and ball bearings are free range, tons of itty bitty ones. Fork won't detract a bit; that's a Tange chromie, anyway. OEM was sloped crown, all chrome but painted legs. I see no dropoff there. Looks like the owner knew how to build a well-tuned bike, a la the Simplex shifters. Close ratios and Superbe FD/RD. He/She knew what they were doing.
