Yes, it would have been okay just with a tune up, but the paint was almost 50% gone on many areas. Since then I've redone the gold edging around the lugs too, which is nice.

I can't claim ownership to the workshop; this is the shop at Transport Cycles aka Firth and Wilson in Philadelphia. They've been a vital resource for me this year; I'm still learning how to work on bikes, so they did the grunt work here. They're cargo-frame builders so they sent the frame out for powder-coating to their usual place. I did, however, paint the gold edges and wrap the bars....haha.

Thanks for that. Means I can curb my jealousy.

I like what you did with the lug lining. Very neatly done. And it makes a huge difference.

I saw one bike website and they sell (lug) "lining pens", I wonder if one of these were used. Well done no matter what device was used.

Sharpie paint pen. Pick from thin to thick point and go at it. Don't know how the Mixte was done but I have had success the few times I have done it with them.

Close - I personally prefer decacolor paint pens. They require a different solvent to remove than sharpie and they don't bleed/burst as much!

Are they available just in your area or all over, if you know. Thanks for the recommend.

I'm not sure if 'aero' ever did anything for speed, but it sure made for some interesting details. Very nice!

I'm certain that training adequately can definitely make more of a difference than the whole "aero" wave in the mid-80's ever did. As u said, though, it made for some interested details and some gorgeous innovations. I just happen to like the look of the internally-routed gear lines

Finally got around to building the Toortelboom frame. I don't know who actually made it, and when, but my best guess it's an early seventies frame. So I built it with stuff that had become popular in the previous decade (Titan bar and stem, Stronglight/TA chain set, Universal/MAFAC brake combo, Maillard hubs, Mavic rims, TA bottle cage, Silca pump) and the then just new Shimano transmission bits (Shimano launched their new Dura-Ace product line in Europe with the Flandria pro team in '73).

Anyway, it took some MacGyvering to get it all working, but the result is quite pleasant to ride, so it's coming along to the Retroronde and probably Eroica Limburg as well.

A little background on the Toortelboom brand: Frans Toortelboom was a Belgian pro from 1966 to 1973, who started his own shop in Middelburg, a small town on the outskirts of Maldegem, just across the Zealandic border.

Frans sponsored a Belgian pro team in 1975: the Munck - Beck's team. This is Julien Knockaert, one of the riders:

There are a lot of unusual brands in this thread. Very nice and interesting. The only Belgian bikes I have are the Merckx: s. Maybe you are all tired of them?

MXL in GAN livery

MXL in Motorola (number plate holder)

Lurking behind the Masi - a MXL in a colour code Merckx called TAL (one of the ugliest ever)

With first edition Super Record 11 (a group that then ended up on the Motorola). This one will get tout Mavic with ZAP.

Yes - I know - yet another MXL... (I do like them). Always nice with a number plate holder.

The mid 80ies cyclocross - an ex John Talen bike. https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Talen

I have had many Merckx: s during the years. They never disappoint you. Wonderful riding frames.

Most handsome.

Gotta luv those housing loops; with antennae like that one could probably bring in The Planet Mongo.
