It's raining classic road bikes in NorCal this month....
 

I usually stay off CL in the good weather months, mostly
because this is a higher priced marketplace for this stuff
and the prices are better when it's raining rain. Also,
I have a lot more time to actually do the overhaul work
when it's ****ty weather for riding.

But for some reason probably related to greed and gluttony,
I've peeked at our local CL the last couple of weeks, and
the results have been pretty pleasant.

This found it's way home here last night, after the Palo Alto
and the '71 Paramount all in the last three weeks or so.:)

I find usually the lower end stuff (if priced realistically) goes fast, real fast. The higher the price of vintage stuff, the slower it moves. So take a 1970s Paramount, at a really good price, it could last a while. Meanwhile, a 1970s Varsity, at a realistic price, will go fast. The best bargains on C/L here are often really good to high end vintage bikes.

And if you want a really good deal, look for framesets, they go really cheap here.

Around here, the bike business is booming throughout the summer, with the last pop being the late in the year triathlete crowd and the back to school/going to school college crowd. Both of them hit it hard in August. By early September thats over, and by now (late September), the good deals start popping up.

Nice score on the Faggin. The paint looks to be in pretty good shape, much better than most of the Faggins I've seen around.

Here's the Faggin I owned a few years back. Frame was TreTubi and a blast to ride. Super-lively ride! I ended up selling it because it was a 56cm and I ride a 58....

As it now lives in my garage. Swapped for a more reasonable
seat post, and some road pedals I'd been saving for something
special, but other than those, tires, tubes, various lubriccants
and anti-seize.........plus about ten hours of work:D..........it is
as it came to me.

Fully chromed, which may be why a lot of these seem to lose
their paint. It's miraculous this has as much paint and decals as
remain, because the chrome has not been roughed that I can tell.

TreTubi??..I'm not sophisticated enough to tell one way or the other.
The only tubing sticker is Columbus SLX on the seat tube. It
certainly meets or exceeds my standard for "laterally stiff, yet
vertically compliant".:p The chain stays are pretty large diameter
and ovalized vertically. I can't tell from tapping.

The frame overall is lighter than the TreTubi Bianchi I have, but
certainly not the lightest bicycle i have as configured currently.

I managed to get 700x25's on it, but anything fatter in a tire
would be impossible. The rear wheel geometry is tight. The
chainstay bridge is really interesting, I'll try to post a photo of it.

Anyway, I'm having fun with it.:thumb:

And yeah, I did not get the impression it has logged a whole buncha
miles when I did the overhaul.
