I've been a lurker for a while so I figured I should ***** out my latest find. My normal ride is a newer Felt but I rotate out other bikes occasionally. This one might stick around for quite sometime, or permanently. I found it on CL 4.5 hours from my house and the guy just retired so he's been out of state for months. After making some arrangements his neighbor let me in the house to get the bike, 9 hours of driving and a very good price later it's mine!
It's been sitting in the basement for a little over a decade so it needs some love but it's not bad. I threw some fresh rubber on it and lubed the chain up and took it for a ride and it's not bad. I've got a few ideas in my mind, either clean it up and ride...or maybe update the components... not sure yet. Anyway, here it is. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6110Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6122Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6113Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6112Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6114Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6117Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6115Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6119Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6120Large.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2..._6116Large.jpg |
Oh what the *^%$, that thread title wasn't supposed to show up like that
|
What word got censored out? You can spell it like t-h-i-s, if it's necessary and not lewd.
|
I was trying to spell out the three poofs of smoke with a Z. So somehow it censored the last **** in my pretty little drawring
|
Doesn't matter.
Awesome, awesome ride. Yes, I'd have driven 9 hours for that. Nice little corncob on the rear of that thing. Built for Speed. That can really be a smashing build. Don't be afraid to upgrade. And welcome to the forum. Glad to have you, hear. |
Well, pretty nice bike regardless!
|
post title is lame, but that bike looks sweet! good for you.
|
lol, nice bike. They sure loved their bright colors back then, didn't they?
If it was mine, I would put a modern component group on it. I do like the set that is on it though. Very retro. Those brakes are something! |
what city was this bike in?
|
Early Lemond's are always a treat.

i saw a lemond like this on CL or kijiji lately in toronto, i was going to kick myself or whatnot if this was the exact bike, because i just skimmed by it. I don't think the one in toronto had C-record, so i had to ask lol....
This bike should definitely be in the miami vice thread |
Cool rainbow fade.
|
I have a good home, I'll ride it once a week, tuck it into bed at night. What have I got to do to get a bike with a paint job like that, great bike.
|
Tres classique in the manner of Tubbs and Crockett!
Fork must not be bent. |
The brakeset alone is worth a ridiculous amount of money, looks like a fantastic score, well done.
Remember - steel is the Thinking Manīs Titanium. |
VEry nice, great find.
|
My suggestion: sell the campy parts on ebay, they are worth a lot of money. Sell the wheelset. Buy an 8 speed 600 tri-color STI group with the dual pivot brakes. Buy a decently light set of clinchers with the easy to find shimano 8/9/10 (current standard) rear hub. If you did this it would really narrow the gap between it and your felt.

Wow, what a nice Lemond. A real time capsule. A bike every red, white and blue yank would love to own. Here in Australia the Team Z colour scheme spawned many a copy. I had 2 bikes from different Aussie builders with variations of the Team Z paint scheme.
Your bike brings back memories of Greg and his wonderful talent as well as his inspirational story. |
I have every bike I want - except a crazy painted 80s bike. And I didn't know I wanted one until right now.
|
For some reason I really like the "loud" color bikes. This one looks fantastic. Nice job!
|
Great find! Congratulations. It's a relatively rare TSX team bike with the reversed paint (dark top, red bottom).

Thanks for all the kind words folks!
|
I would keep it the way it is. It's a 90's bike with an awesome 90's components.
|
I love it. #1 contender for the "show your zany bike" thread, if there is one. And if there isn't one, now there should be. I mean that in the best possible way.
