question: paint stripper and chrome
does paint remover (one you apply and strip later) affect chrome plating too?
if so, any recco for a safe paint removing -- other than sanding out? thanks |
Paint stripper has no effect on chrome.

good to hear that. awesome.
thanks, guys! |
Most paint stripper is methylene chloride, including (to my nose) the Jasco stuff that people recommend for steel bikes. I've occasionally thought about using a caustic, like Peel-A-Way, but it can leave a sort of "conversion" residue on steel = blackish.

Also, wear gloves and eye protection. The stuff is nasty. A drop on your hand and you WILL feel the burn.

Ok, don't panic ... But I've been told by my frame painter that some paint strippers can cause "dulling" on chrome. He advised me to proceed with caution and not leave the agent on the frame any longer than needed.
