What is this?

Hey Folks,
I was looking at an old mid 80's Ross. While talking about bike and stuff I asked the guy if he had anything else hanging around. He smiled and dragged out this. I have no clue of the year or manufacturer. It has been repainted and the front brake caliper has been moved to the rear. Funky handlebars too. This not my thing but I'm really curious as to what it is. Thanks to all. Here's the pics. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=220820http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=220821http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=220822http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=220823http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=220824http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=220825http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=220826http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=220827 |

Someone might want it if it were in good condition. The ram's horn bars are not so common to find out and about, though. Looks like a new front wheel, so not complete. Original construction was ultra low end. Repaint. Just a curiosity, I think, but I'm no muscle bike expert.

There are some BMX guys out there that would love to have that front wheel.

Yep its a Sears Spyder. Found some pretty good shots on the cabe forum.

Man I would love to have that just my type of bike, I can never find bikes like that anymore in my area although I did find a nice Spyder at a yard sale a few years ago it was a single speed with a coaster brake. what does he want for it. Here are a few I have been able to find but it has taken years.

If you want the original one from the first post the guy might be willing to sell it.

Re: Those brake calipers. I seem to remember that was how the bike was sold. Keep the front end 'chopper clean'. On motorcycles at that time, if your state insisted on a front brake, you laced in a Honda 50 hub into the front wheel. Useless for stopping, but you were legal under state law.
Same idea on this bicycle. Make it look like it doesn't have a front brake, but still have dual calipers keeping the company on safe legal ground. Sure, you lost a lot of the braking action, but what kid really cared about that? |
