Where can I find Westwood 28"x1 1/2" rims?
I'm in the US. The only ones I've been able to find are supposedly in the basement of a bike shop that won't answer emails and won't talk about it on the phone! This is a common rim in much of the rest of the world, I imagine there must be some source for them here. My hubs are 40 hole but 36 could work. Anyone know where to get these?

Buy a plane ticket to Amsterdam?

Just to be clear, are you talking about roadster rims (the bigguns) or the Euro/Canadian name for 700c?
For roadster rims, yellow jersey at least used to have them. |
Yep, the roadster ones. They're for an Indonesian pedi-cab (becak) which sort of has rod brakes. They're common rims in Asia and I think India and have the same shape as the old roadster rims on some Raleigh, etc pre-60's bikes. I had no idea they would be so hard to find! I'll try calling yellow jersey.
Thanks. |
Perfect opportunty to convert to 700's and drum-brakes....or not.

Great, yellow jersey does have them! Shipping this afternoon. Thanks for the tip, Roll.
And Velognome I would like to do that but there are six wheels between the two pedicabs and only two rims and a hub need replacing. I am going to take the opportunity to replace one (stripped) fixed-gear hub with a coaster brake. |
Hey, cool! You're welcome! Post pics of your wagons!

Would these work on a mid-60s Raleigh DL-1 with rod brakes? Looks like it. |

Are the rims anywhere close to radially true?
|
I think so, aside from the dent-- which I assume may be hammered back out. The dent is the only annoyance I had when braking. I haven't put them on a stand or anything.

A few months back, somebody here mentioned that alloy roadster rims might be available in, I think, Italy and Colombia. Can't remember the brands or who mentioned them, though.

One source I've bookmarked is classic cycle in Germany... haven't placed my order yet but I'll eventually get a pair and some other assorted sundries once funds permit, they have all sorts of neat bits on their site... expecting shipping is gonna be killer but they'll knock the VAT off the price for those outside the EU.

Clasher, have you found out if this source will be willing to ship to North America, and how much shipping will be?

http://flyingpigeon-la.com/ Might have some wheels?

Hi folks. I did get the rims from yellow jersey. They are nothing special, mass-produced asian rims and certainly not as strong as the ones they are replacing but they were well-priced. I also want to mention that the folks at yellow jersey were great and that the guy I ordered from was very straightforward about the quality of the rims when I placed my order. Great company.
I do remember seeing a company, I believe in Holland, who are making alloy 28x1.5 westwood profile rims. No idea if they ship to US and can't remember who it was but I found them on google. On a related note, I need a 40h coaster hub to finish the project and I've had no luck tracking one down. If anyone can point me to one, I would be indebted! |
You could always try calling these guys.... place an enquiry for a "product sample" under the false pretense of more in the future.
