Anyone know anything about a Fuji Royale?
I'm not sure if it's a I or II. Where they decent bikes with good components or ???

Like many Japanese bikes from the early 80's, Fuji kept updating the Royale to keep up with their competition. Overall, I would put the Royale in the middle of Fuji's lineup as a nice riding recreational bike. Weight should be around 25-26 lbs.

The Royale was my first Fuji in 1979. Still have it, ride it, and enjoy it if that says anything about it's quality. From my blog:

I have the mixte version of the Royale, I never knew there was a I and II. Mine was purchased new in 1980, I think.
I ride it several times a week. Looks good and runs fine. I will never sell it. This one came with a Suntour rear derailleur that is labelled Fuji with some black in there somewhere to match the cranks. |
We call them Fuji Quarter Pounders in this country.

Easy to tell the difference between the Royale and the Royale II. Fuji catalogs are all on line. Decent bike, lower end to middle of the product line. I've had a couple of Royales along with a Royale II. Fujis always get a good response around here.

I bought a new Fuji Sports 10 in 1976. Although I grew up on Raleighs, I think the Fuji must have been less money (because I had none) or I met a very good salesperson. The bike was good and I rode it for 10 years. Recently I picked up a very nice '83 Fuji Royale II. Not high end, but very much in the middle. However, with it's parallel vanadium-steel frame and the harmonious blend of Suntour, Sugino and Nitto components, it rides much nicer than the '75 Raleigh Gran Sport with Campy Nuovo Record that I recently parted with. A lot of people on this forum seem to like old Fujis. I also think they are one of the best buys in vintage road bikes.

this is a great bike. I own one myself.
this will answer most/all your inquires http://classicfuji.com/0_Cat_Cvr_Home.htm as for the bike, i love it. Rides/functions smooth and was pretty light weight, even before I made it really light myself. Will agree its a middle of the pack, but can easily be made into a very solid bike with a few component upgrades. Good foundation to build from in my book... why i chose to keep it, and never regret that move. pics? the decals are the easiest distinction between I and II. look at mine for instance. its the first version (1980). http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6018/...2a25f74f_z.jpg |
I have one from 1983. Had shimano golden arrow components. I loved the frame and rebuilt it with more modern components. Great bike.

I have two II's.

I just sold this Fuji Royale last week (I wish I had better photo's). It has the Fuji labeled Suntour VGT deraillers and crankset. It was a beautiful bike.

Do they have friction or index shifters?

Does anyone know the weight on these bikes?

There is an '81 Royale on our area CL for 150.00 (just an example of what people are asking here).

Mine weighs about 25 lbs.

Aaron, you funny guy!
I always loved working on Fujis. They were so well made. |

I owned a Fuji Royale Mixte and found it to be a very well made and appointed bicycle. I can't really comment on the ride quality but the bicycle did come in at a bit over 28lb 1oz, with pedals fitted, according to my records...

I've has a couple of Fuji Royales from the early '80s. They were the model just below the S-12-S, and are a solid nice riding bike. IMHO, any Fuji from the Royale on up (S-12-S, S-12-S Ltd, America, etc.) is not to be passed up when the price is right. Warning ... Fujis are extremely addictive!

I have a vintage Fuji Royale. The tires need replacing but I cannot see the size. They look to be the original tires. I presume they are 27 x 1 1/4. Anyone know what the narrowest tires that will fit the Sunshine rims .

I bought a dark blue Royale in Orlando, in 1980 and rode it everywhere. It was stolen when I was in Virginia and recovered, then stolen again in California in 1984. I replaced it with a Miyata that I still ride. |
