Good Deal? 1980's Bianchi Limited.

I've been searching religiously for a vintage bike with good components and found one.

It's a 54cm Bianchi Limited 14 speed from the 80's with Shimano 600 components. I has also been recently tuned, cleaned and overhauled. Some minor cosmetic blemishes. Basically, it's perfect...except maybe the price.

I would be paying $375. I get the impression from these forums that even well-maintained vintage bikes go for between $100-$300 in general. Would this be an exception?

i think its high - i picked up essentially the same bike - in great shape - for $200

edit: btw - i dont mean to turn u off to the deal - lets put it this way - if this is a bike that you will ride and enjoy for years to come (and it fits) - then whats the big deal about $100 one way or the other - but w a resale - you'll lose dough

At that price, I would expect the paint to be in better shape. Quite a few chips and marks. Around here, that price would be high. Depends on how hard you want to look, and where you live. In hot markets, that price could be on the low side.

In my area, $100 bikes (market price) are really dogs. Around $200 is where you start seeing something decent. $300 plus gets you something special. $375 gets you a lot of choices among nice vintage bikes. Of course, you can get lucky and find something below market. But such luck often comes from looking every day, everywhere.

I sold an absolutely mint, made in Italy Bianchi Limited to a guy who worked at the local high end used bike shop for $600. He was thrilled, as was I.

If it fits, bargain with him.

This was an eBay "Buy it Now" offer. It would have been 450 plus shipping, but now it's just 450 (80 bucks off for shipping), which puts the bike at 370.

My problem is that I need a bike NOW for commute and travel, but don't want to drop a hundred for a piece of crap while I wait and stalk craigslist for a good deal.

I guess it's a bad deal, especially with shipping. Thanks for the input guys!
