I mean the whole thing. Frame/fork, components - even tires. Well, if you got close, I guess that's okay Bonus-points for the number of members that contributed to the whole.

Now, I'm not talking about buying a complete bike from another member; that would be too easy. I'm talking piece-by-piece. Anyone?

Anyone currently working towards this as a goal?

Pics if you have them - thanks!

No, but I believe 5 different member contributed parts for my JRJ.

I'm pretty sure all of my bikes have parts sourced from BF, some more than others.

Robbie and I built a bike from the ground up, with the help of several BF members.

Sounds like a great goal! I think you just convinced me of how I should build my next bike. Anyone want to give me a classic cyclocross frame in 58cm or so? Maybe I'll start with something out of the instant BOC and build around that!

Pics or it didn't happen

But, seriously - any photos to share? Sound as though you're the first to reply with a bona-fide BF build.

Thanks!

Actually, the BOC game and a couple recent BF member transactions are what got me thinking about this. I'm going to do the same thing. Once it's complete, I'll make my last thread and vacate the premises

I sent a frame to Robbie. He scrounged up some parts, and conned others into contributing the rest. You'll have to bug him for the pics - I never saw it in person but it was a complete build from soup to nuts, using only BF supplied parts. That was the concept from beginning.

I originally got the frame in a BF trade, so there is more than one degree of separation to the build.

Yep, that bike is 100%, unless I stole some parts somewhere. My crimes escape me.
I'll come back with an edit and list if I can find it or remember it.

Well, at the time that is what was available, and that is an original build. As for modern incarnations, I do not see why people would even use bullhorns as they are totally lame, regardless of the type of brake levers.

I originally got the frame in a BF trade, so there is more than one degree of separation to the build.
The entire concept of this bike was to build it for a BF member who really needed it.
Nothing was purchased, and at least a couple of the donors could really have used the proceeds from selling the parts.
It was bigbossman's bigidea. There's nothing on this bike that didn't come from BF members.

1984? Trek 760

Frame: bigbossman with a new powder coat, Reynolds 531
Fork: Robbietunes
Chain: gomango
Wheels: rothenfield1, then repacked and trued by drrobwave
Crankset/BB: Robbietunes
FD/RD: bigbossman
Bars/stem: I think one of the Robs--Robtown or ERob30 or another.
Calipers: BianchiGirll
Shifters: One of the other Robs-not the one that donated the Bar/stem
Cables/housing: gmouchawar, take-offs on a bike from him
Tires: Robbietunes but before that from either txvintage or bigbossman, who didn't like them (ProRace2's)
Tubes: I don't remember the name, but they just showed up in the mail
Headset: again, from a BF member, but I lost the list of names. He knows who he is
Seatpost: again, can't remember
Saddle: For the life of me, I can't remember, but I know I didn't provide it.
Freewheel: RobbieTunes
Bar/stem: For the life of me, I can't remember, but I know I didn't provide them.
Brake levers: For the life of me, I can't remember, but I know I didn't provide them.
Wedge bag: RobbieTunes. I stuck a patched tube and an empty CO2 cartridge in there, just to mess with him.

If I omitted anyone, and I'm sure I did, forgive me. I'm old and I drink a lot.

^ WE HAVE A WINNER!

That's awesome - especially as it was done for a needy cyclist. Good on everyone who contributed and BBM/Robbie for the concept and coordination.

I know there's gotta be more out there...

Most of my Fuji America came from BFers...either buys, trades, for facilitation.

Frame – buldogge, Facilitated the purchase and shipping of the frame. Eternal thanks for the effort and excellent packaging job.

Crankset – Alekhine, I found a post from 2005 about the Sugino Mighty Tour crank and Alekhine mentioned having one. I PMed, he replied, and sold me an original crank. The crank came from his dad’s bike that he did MUCH touring on all over the country. I’m grateful to have it and I hope the bike is worth of the crank.

Brakes – junkfoodjunkie, jfj gifted me the pair of brake calipers for the bike. They were awesome and got a slight Khatfull treatment (just disassembly and cleaning due to the anodization) Many thanks jfj!

Bars – JunkYardBike and JeremyS on the Serotta forum, JYB saw my WTB for a set of Nitto 115 bars and saw JeremyS over on the Serotta foroums had a pair for sale. Quick PM and they were mine. Thanks for the heads-up!

Hubs – Scottryder, When Scott found out I wanted to build some wheels with high flange hubs he immediately popped up and gifted me this set of Sunshine Gyromasters. They got the normal KHatfulling treatment and came out incredibly nice. Thanks, as always, Scott.

Brake Levers – KonAaronSnake, Aaron facilitated the purchase of the brake levers (and a set of bars to which they were attached). We called it even as I recovered his Fizik saddle in red vinyl for a project of his. Thanks Aaron.

FD – eBay parts package. Some time back I sniped a box of parts which included a lot of Cyclone stuff at an awesome price. I didn’t need any of it at the time but I used the FD and Cyclone shifters. In it were also 1st Gen Superbe shifters which I was later able to give to Scott for a build of his. Funny how that all works…

RD – beech333, Matt gifted me the Cyclone GT, which I was able to pick up at the Chicago C&V ride. In addition to a great ride and meeting great people I drove away with another part for the bike! What a weekend! Many thanks Matt!

Headset – eBay parts package, this is a Tange headset which came in that eBay package. The stack height was a little short so I had to use a 1cm spacer. Oddly, an LBS here locally had a nice, aluminum 1” spacer which of course I was able to polish to mirror to match the rest of the headset.

44T ring – local LBS buy, one of the two new parts (other than cables/housings) on the bike I could never find an original Sugino 44T road ring. This is a MTB ring and is thicker….it somewhat messes up the look of the crank. However, one of the road rings has popped up on eBay this week. PLEASE don’t bid against me. This crank SO needs it

BB – co-op buys, Suntour XC cups (nicely chromed) and generic spindle from two separate co-ops.

Seatpost – southpawboston, Saw a FS post and inquired. He had two that fit the bill, I bought the Sugino.

Rims – from donor, I bought a 1987 Fuji Tivoli locally as a donor for the 700c Araya rims that I. That bike is VERY nice but redundant for my stable. If I come across an inexpensive 700c wheelset I’ll probably flip it.

Shifters – eBay parts package

Stem - local co-op buy, while not horribly inexpensive I guess it was for a technomic…and it’s money to a good cause.

Tires – Niagara Cycle….the CST gumwalls…I’ll be getting some Pasela Tourguards at Christmas time.

Cable Guides – LBS, one actually had some Dia-Compe cable guides. Go figure.

Pedals – Scottryder, another gift from Scott…the pedals had seen better days and had black anodized cages. I removed that and sanded some of the nicks out but didn’t go crazy polishing….they ARE pedals

Freewheel – local co-op buy.

Chain – LBS, the other new part on the bike. SRAM PC-830.

Saddle – Trucker Dan, Trucker Dan contacted me in response to my WTB about the Fujita Professional saddle. Didn’t take much thought to take him up on the offer and purchase it. The saddle was off his Dad’s ’83 America which he swapped out nearly immediately for another saddle. Thanks Dan, I hope you find the bike fitting of your Dad’s saddle.

Spokes – bikemore, bikemore has sold me spokes (and advised me on choosing lengths after running spocalc) for two of my projects and I’ll be hitting him up for more for the wheel build for my Opus IV.

^ Cool - another good one, with a nice breakdown of donors/facilitators.

BTW, Kieth - when are we going to see that spiffy Italian addition to your stable?

It's done except for the wheel build...which BTW, rims, spokes, hubs from Champion City! The Italvega has a higher percentage of BF parts than the America!
