You know you are obsessed when ...
That's me, to a "T".
:) DD |
surprisingly accurate...
I've caught myself doing these things many times. |

On the last 4 or 5 vacations, I always find a bike rental place so I can explore the city.
You see someone riding down your street on a Celeste Bianchi, it has non-aero brake levers. You pedal like crazy to catch him yelling, "hey, what year is that and does it have Campy bits?"
I didn't actually yell but I have seen him 4 or 5 times and will catch him one day to check it out. |
I like Velouria's stuff.
I stop and admire locked-up bicycles too, except I don't have friends that stop with me let alone walk with me in the first place.
When you spend practically your whole life on CL just watching to see what pops up! Lol :-)
... your keychain has more bike lock keys than all your other keys combined.
I check craigslist when we're trying to decide where to take our next vacation.
My wife hasn't figured that out yet. |
haha i do check out bikes a lot more often lately, i just gotta be careful or people will think you're a bike thief or something...
for instance, i went to college today, when i passed by the bike rack i saw a cool vintage, i stopped and looked and it was kind of a beat up claud butler, i inspected it even closer to look for some frame stickers and to see what components were on it. I was doing this all while holding my mint condition bianchi celeste, people must have thought i was weird, or must have been wondering why i was staring at this bike. Then i just went to class after, and if you're wondering, no i didn't lock my bike up outside on the bike rack, i usually just drag my bianchi into class, no one ever says anything, i just notice people staring at it alot, probably cause of the color... |
"I was just checking her derailleur".

... you buy bikes for their parts only and then still find a use for the frame, ending up with resp. a grocery-getter, a rainbike, a REALLY bad weather bike, a winterbike and something still to be determined.
When you actually enjoy climbs! As a kid I would avoid em' at all cost, and 90% of them would get walked up!!! And you guys are killin' me with the Craigslist comments! Ha! I must check it 10 times a day!!!
*goes to check CL*
..you build a bike around a set of pedals you happen to fancy.
You respond to Craigslist and Ebay postings not because you want to buy the bike, but because the poster has erroneously written that the tubing is double-butted throughout when clearly the Reynolds sticker has horisontal lettering.
Oh, and you know what "manettes" and "haubans" are, but you are unable to ask for directions in Paris.
...you find yourself wondering if you should really use those consumable parts that are nearly impossible to replace, and, find yourself confessing your obsessions on an internet forum.
"Doctor Larry! Doctor Curly! Doctor Moe! ...please report to the psychiatric ward". |

when you can look at a picture of a bike and know what frame size it is !!!!
I was checking out this sweet, clean Motobecane the other day. Lugged frame, nice single speed conversion, moustache bars, matching grips and Brookes saddle.
Then I noticed the pretty girl sitting on top of it. Then I noticed she was the wife of a friend of mine. She laughed at me. |
A few weeks ago I was waiting for my high school aged sister to get out of school, when I noticed a non-walmart looking full suspension mountain bike at the rack. I walked over and found a Jamis XAM with Sram X9, Avid Elixer brakes and a Fox Talas fork. At the time, I was in the middle of upgrading my mtb with hundreds of dollars of upgrades. But that wasn't all, the owner of the bike had secured it to the rack with one lousy very thin cable lock by the front wheel! This bike is about a dozen times better than my current bike in every way, at there it was, sitting in a bike rack in a secluded area outside the school grounds. I've never been one to steal things, but I was having second thoughts that day.
