Drillium dos and DO NOTS!!!
A few year ago this old Stronglight crank set showed up attached to a Peugeot PX10. Needless to say, I opted to not use the crank when I restored the Peugeot. That said, I though it might be nice to share this piece or art with the rest of you.

Cool looking crank although all the little drill holes seem kinda pointless and look like they could hurt the strength integrety of the crank.

The look of it doesn't fit my tastes, but to my untrained eye it looks pretty well done. The hole placement looks planned out, everything is well-centered and symmetrical. Not as good as DD's, but better than a lot of what we see! What are your plans for it, Randy?

Heck!, a trip to Radioshack for a bunch of LEDs to put into those holes and a small battery pack to zip tie on to the crank arm.........and your will be the envy of all night riders!

Not my choice of attempted weight reduction.
There was a Model of Ital-Vega that had drilled crank arms, we thought those were scary too.
A guy I raced against long ago, cut 1/4" wide slots in his Sugino crank arms, two slots about 30 mm long with a web between of about 20 mm long. At one race I saw him at the start line but not during the race, when he started off he broke an crank arm. Ouch.

Being machinist I pretty much drill holes in things for a living. Bicycle parts is a medium I haven't played with much (yet), but I've always loved the look of well crafted, well thought out and artistic drillium work. I'v got a'73 NR rear derailleur sitting in my tool box just begging to be put under the mill spindle...
