Group Paramount shot...

...coming tomorrow, providing the rain eases up.

EDIT: Scroll down to Post #5 for the "family portrait."

Joking and teasers aside, I've been rather curious as to the visual effect of grouping the four Paramounts together along with the two Superiors - especially with the addition of the teal '73 to the mix. The orange and red Superiors already set each other off quite well:

Eh, maybe not...

"The Schwinn Paramount, now available in a wide variety of tropical flavors?" :twitchy: :roflmao2:

Frankly, I have tried this before, but I'm not sure the available combination was suited to the idea:

We'll see how it goes in the morning, though I'm not worried - Pastor Bob requested a showing of the two Superiors next to each other. I'm sure the Divine Plan must include taking photos of Paramounts in nice weather conditions :D (though I'll bring the gold plated Colnago Pista* out, just in case).

Kurt,

Glad I could inspire a little. Hope your weather is better. Gee, we were only hit with 16 or more inches of snow over night. I should take a picture of my '71 when I get back from church today. It should be very patriotic. Red, White, and Blue.

Michael Angelo 10-30-11 05:33 AM

It's great having a "Paramount" Museum close by.

pastorbobnlnh 10-30-11 12:36 PM

No picture of my Red '71 with its Blue accents against a White 12 inches of snow background.

But any of the above pictures have kept me sane this morning into the afternoon.

I feel there should be a Volare in there.

WNG 10-30-11 03:01 PM

Wow, talk about eye candy! The Lincolns in the background help add even more color to the photos.
Bravo Kurt!

Came close on Sunday at Gables Bike Day - I almost acquired a World Voyageur in Sunset Orange. Not in great shape though.

Bravo Kurt!

Thanks! Funny thing - I have a matching Paramount for each Lincoln:

Of course. No straight-blade Colnago B.S. on my Paramounts - just pure factory curvatures of the 1970's.

Very nice set of pictures, great bikes -- thanks for sharing.

I'd often wondered what one of these would do with a twin-turbo 460 under the hood.

Glad to do so; thanks John.

Wow- you didn't have much room to spare with the mudguards on that Superior! Thanks for the great photos as well as for your fearless wrenching posts, especially the frame straightening ones.

SICKENING BEAUTIFUL!!

WOW......that's a whole bunch of Schwinns you got there..

Stats on the Detroit Iron, please. I have to live vicariously... those land yachts would never handle a snowy NH hill.

pastorbobnlnh 10-30-11 04:51 PM

Back home from an afternoon with the church youth. WoW! What a nice addition to the original set of photos! Simply stunning! Kurt thanks for pairing the Superiors. It is nice to see them together.

Should we add our own Paramount group shots to ths thread?

Especially not your hill! Trust me gang. Joel's road requires 4 wheel drive all winter!

Would you believe I still have problems pulling the rear wheel? That's with a 700x20C, no less. Don Mainland didn't leave much room on this one.

They both have Ford 400 CIDs (351C block with a taller deck height - the 400 later evolved into the 351M) mated to C6 3-speed auto transmissions. They're emissions-era engines (-5 degree ******** timing chain with a camshaft that looks more like a solid rod), so they make a paltry 159 hp each, with 315 lb/ft torque to make up for it. Early non-emissions 400's (proper camshaft and straight-up timing chain) would spit out around 250hp straight out of the box; this number kept getting cut down through the years as more emissions nonsense was bolted to them.

There's a good article on the 400's evolution here: http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/i...00_Engine.html

Hot Rod Magazine turned a 400 into a 500HP monster: http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/e...d/viewall.html

Thanks, Bob - glad to post them. Would you believe these were the best shots out of 82? I tend to go a bit overboard ;)

Absolutely! After all, I get to see these bikes in person, so there's not much thrill in it for me - seeing new Paramounts; however, is always a thrill.

Cool pictures. So, which one is your favorite? The one that you would keep above all others. Would it be the rarest, the nicest or maybe one that has special memories attached to it.

I can't speak for either Superior, for I haven't ridden either yet (ditto for the green '73) but my favorite of the lot is the beat-up '61. I've racked up many miles on it, both enjoyable and otherwise. It fits perfectly - even though it doesn't look it - and it's never given much mechanical complaint, save for when I initially built it with bulged-bead Araya rims. Otherwise, I've done the BB once on it, and replaced the B.17 I initially built it with. Unfortunately, the B.15 presently on it is an unworthy successor - an Ultimate Arse Hatchet™ to be precise.

The interesting thing will be to see how the red Superior stacks up. I built it with my preferences from the '61 in mind; especially the 3TTT handlebars, which are similar in fit to the '61s Titan set. I also fitted it with SR platform pedals which suit my wide feet, in contrast to the Campagnolo Record pedals on everything except the '61. The '61 has Lyotard rat-traps similar to original specifications. Never been keen on the Lyotard's build quality, but they've been the most comfortable set of pedals I've ridden.

I am rather partial to the rather beat up, but much loved '61.

A great stable and great photos, Kurt!

Many thanks for the pics, Kurt!
