Apply some of the information found in How Old Is My Bike?, paying closest attention to Vintage Cycle Components. That should help you figure out the vintage of that nice old bike.

I have a 92 Rockhopper Sport that came with Suntour components. And a 95 which has Shimano Alivio, Parallax hubs, and a 1-1/8" head tube/fork/stem.
I guesstimate it's 93-94 due to the 1" front end, Biopace and other Shimano gear and the traditional front hubshell.

Bikepedia only goes back to 1994. That one looks to me like about 1990. You could tell for sure by looking at the Shimano date codes. vintagetrek.com will tell you how to get do that.

See Retrobike.com

Check out 1990 catalog.

I agree that it's a '90, I've got the same bike in the next size up. Surprisingly light, and bulletproof as they come.

As much as I'd love to keep it its one size too big. It's an 18" and I ride a 16" so it's on the Houston Craigslist. I've also secured a 16" Rockhopper in even better shape. :D

I agree. I had a 1990 Rockhopper Comp with LX components that was tricked out by me and stolen during a "bikejacking," I kid you not. A story for another day.
