$50. Super Mondia, Finished.

Some of you guys remember the $50. Super Mondia i scored a while back. It was in need of a few items and some fine tuning. Here it is finished wearing the original Univesal 77 brake set.

The replacement Mondia seattube decals look excellent - how are they in comparison to the originals in scale?

Nice job on the o-rings

Very tasty! The Super Mondia is a great bike, and fifty clams is just obscene!

those old black and tan contis always look great on a black bike with lots of shiny aluminum parts. good job,

it's rare to see clamp-on downtube shifters with a toptube designed for an internal rear brake cable. is that original?

Very classy looking ride, especially like the high flange hubs and internal cable routing.

When did internal routing come to the scene?

It seems anachronistic on this bike.

The decals are the exact same size, color and font as the originals. In fact I was able to put them in the same place, the originals left kind of a ghost image of where they were. The O-rings are perfect in size, how many do you need?

The internal brake routing started in 1982.

This is a 1982 Mondia which is when they started with internal brake cable routing, with clamp on shifter mounts. By 1983 they had Braze on shifter mounts.

I took it for a good shake down ride on Sunday. Very comfortable, solid feeling, easy to get up to speed, and loves to go fast. The brakes work great, shifts wonderfully, and you can ride hands off, definitely a keeper.

Good to know. That ghosting is from the clearcoat - the originals took the thin clear with it. I dare say the modern decals - just by being a bit thicker than the original ink transfers - probably make up the fractional difference in paint height.

I'm pretty sure I'm set on o-rings; never gave it any thought, really. I can't think of any brake caliper I own without them. Thanks for the offer though, Mike.

FYI, if you've got some time today, I'll drop by with the completed Superior.

Very nice - like the details of the frame, like the lug lining and chrome. Enjoy it!

The glue on the old decals are what left an impression in the clear coat. I was able to use Scratch-X on that spot and cleaned up the clear coat really well. I'm glad they left a "ghost" type of impression that way I put them in the same spot. I would have never replaced them, but they seemed to flak off just sitting still. The downtube decal is fine, so are the reynolds decals on the forks. I'll be home early, but with the time change I'm sure it will be dark by the time I get home. Oh.....and I got new lead on another bike.....
