Hey guys, would a cheapy computer to keep track of distance etc be good to throw on my trainer bike? At least when I'm riding I know almost all my point a to point b distances and am able to keep very close watch on my time ratios...

Since I shattered my elbow I have been thinking of getting a trainer. My legs are itching to ride and I don't want to lose my endurance. Any suggestions to pass on? (Sorry about the threadjack but it seemed appropriate :)).

Kum ba ya and a group hug?

I might have a cheapy computer to pass along. I know I have morale support to pass along.

I think that sounds like a good idea, although I normally have to mount my computer to the top tube, because there is not enough wire to reach, on a cheap computer. Cadence may be a nice addition, though.
I'm in Illinois. Lots of trainer time in Illinois in the winter.

You mean the concept of winter?

Sort of. Its not the weather that stops me from riding outside. It's the time change. Come 5 pm and it is pitch black here. Traffic is bad enough on the commute. Doing it in darkness is a death wish.

I still have the weekends. Until they put down salt. Then I ride the junker. Still better than the trainer though.

Yeah, if it couldn't watch hockey while on it, I'd probably just eat cookies and have a beer.

...try and find some scrapple...

I gagged then nearly wet myself laughing!
Scrapple is made from the stuff they discard when making SPAM!

No trainer for me. Left my rollers behind in NYC. It's 70F and sunny currently and I'm heading out for a 15-mile ride before dinner.
Winters suck, had enough of that. ;)

BTW, fried tofu is very good! :D

Show your setups, please, I need some ideas.

My setup is totally swanky. I can put the fan on the floor or the chest freezer. The low-def 27" tube TV with 100 channels of crap will get me on MTV cribs in no time.

Trainer? What are these trainer things of which you speak ?:p

Captain Blight 11-09-11 07:59 PM

Harden up and ride outside you Nellies. If I can do it you can do it.

You want a workout? Ride a UO-8 25 miles over hills through a light snow. That's a workout. Sitting inside on a trainer is for dilletantes.

There's a reason I built a winter bike this year: mental scars from the trainer last winter.

JReade 11-09-11 08:31 PM

My winter bike includes one less water bottle.

auchencrow 11-09-11 10:13 PM

Winter riding is a gas. Try it.

Gravity Aided 11-10-11 05:12 AM

All right, I'm convinced. I'll post pics when it snows.

I've got the same trainer, only use it on rainy days.

jbchybridrider 11-10-11 05:41 AM

I bought a trainer off flea-bay, the idiots did'nt drill the hole correctly through the roller the tire runs on "noise, vibration" anyway I ended up chucking it.
