1962 Bottecchia Campione del Mundo. Help me identify it!
I was hoping someone could help identify a bike that I bought off of craigslist. The decals claim that it is a 1962 Bottecchia Campione Del Mondo. Everything is Campagnolo on it, but that is all it says. The chainring says brev. and that's about it. I was wondering what I need to look for to figure out what type of campagnolo group it is and what specific Bottecchia frame it is.

Have a look through How Old Is My Bike? and apply what you learn there. That should help identify the vintage of the bicycle. As for what model, the brief description offered is miserably inadequate to be of much use to me, or anyone else on the forum. We need better description and good clear pictures to assist.
One quick way to determine vintage, if the bike is full Campagnolo, is to remove the rear wheel. Undo one of the axle lock nuts, take it off and look at the two digit number stamped on the inside face. That will tell you when the hub was made.
So, let's see some pictures of your Bottecchia, please. I have owned several old Botts including a Bottecchia Model Special, a very special Model Special and, of course, a Bottecchia Professional. I really liked them all and wish you good luck with your new/old bicycle...

Again, some pictures of the complete drive side, frame details and some component details will be tremendously helpful for identification purposes.

If the sticker looks like this, it's not the name of the model. Rather, it's Bottecchia showing off that the world champoinship was won on one of their bikes, though in fact that bike might not even have been built by Bottecchia.
This shot is of the sticker on my early 70s Giro D' Italia/Professional. That model was spec'd with Campy Record/Nouvo Tippo and other brand components, while the Professional was the same frame spec'd with Nouvo Record. Both models had Campy dropouts.
Here's a link to the 1973 catalog with the pages for the Professional and Giro. Note the spring-retention water bottle cage. Although I bought mine as a frame only, I was lucky that it came with the cage.

Yeah, that's Campagnolo "Victory" components which didn't come out until the early 1980s. The dropouts on the frame are also "Gipiemme" from the early 1980s.
The "1966" is just a reference to Bottecchia's palmares.

Who else thinks the head badge was designed during the facist era?

The Campione del Mondo 1966 sticker indicates it's newer than 1966 but no older than 1985 (Bottecchia's next World Championship). The components are Campagnolo Triomphe which came out in 1984, so the bicycle is either 1984 or 1985. As to the model, it most likely a Competizione, as this is what the Triomphe equipped model was called in 1987. What's the frame tubing - Matrix? Serial number?

That would be odd, given that Ottavio Bottecchia is thought to have been murdered by fascist sympathizers for his socialist political views.

In fact, I googled some images of him (Mussolini, not Bottecchia)--I'd rather not post them --easily found if anyone's curious--and an eagle appeared prominantly on virtually every hat, helmet, and uniform he wore.
The perched eagle was a symbol of Italian facism used on uniforms. Maybe Carnielli adopted the symbol to appease the facists.
