BMW bicycles?
 

haven't posted in a long time, good to be back. will try to post pictures. found a bmw folding bicycle sans wheels with lots of rust. anyone know anything? looks 80s or 90s era. looks like a hybrid without shocks. 3 piece cranks, sun tour derailer thats missing some parts, the cranks doesn't have a spider its just welded together. worth fixing? would be cool to have an extra bike to take on trips.

found some info on bmw bikes on the web they are higher end mail order only. this doesn't seem high end at all. anyone ever heard of bmw bicycles?

I remember BMW supplied a fleet of folding bikes for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. A friend and I tried to buy a couple later. He got one, I did not. As I recall it was mostly white.

If it's full size, it was built by Montague. I think in recent years they've shifted to another manufacturer for more traditional folding bikes.

The Olympic mountain bike has a regular diamond frame, but they switched to a crossbar-based unit after developing bikes for the U.S. military.

thanks for the reply sans picture. it folds in the middle but has a sorta traditional diamond frame, different then the montague i believe. what you think, worth fixing? it needs wheels atleast. would like a touring bike to tour europe someday maybe.

thanks for the picture, it's similar but a step-thru frame and solid blue paint. maybe a lower end model? I can't tell what kind of cranks from the picture but i would guess anything made for the olympics would have nicer cranks then this one. I dunno I'll probably end up fixing it up rather then letting it rust in my friend's tool shed they don't even know where it came from. I kinda like mystery bikes the best.
