...and several other very original Peugeots have passed my way.

The best example is my daughter-in-law's PBN-10, '81 or '82. Wrong seat (I think) and an added rear view mirror. Otherwise all there including reflectors and Helicomatic spoke protector. At 56 cm too small for me, but I was impressed with the Simplex SX610 transmission. She enjoys riding all over St Paul with my son who is on an original '85 Peugeot PH501.

Nice bikes everyone (wish I had one to show). Looking through all these, at first it's surprising how many 30- and 40-year old bikes still exist in near-new condition. But if you think about it, a bicycle was not a big investment, and if somebody decided they didn't like it, it was small and light and easy to store away and forget about. How many more of these are out there?

...and finally a mostly original Peugeot PGN10, 1984 I believe... Went to my brother who gave me his PX-10. Original owner was from Colorado and had his buds at the LBS equip it for him when new. They swapped out the Weinmann brake levers for DiaCompe and replaced the front brake with a DiaCompe assembly as well. After this pic put on fresh tires and off it went. My size at 60 cm and a really sweet ride.

Here's my 1990 (I think) Club Fuji..........ridden around the block a couple of times and put away. Not NOS, but pretty close.

Also, my '88 or '89 Ironman Master...........replaced the saddle with my Brooks Swift as shown and have swapped out the tires since then.

Well, since we're posting almosts, my '72 Frejus has new bar tape, hoods, tires and shift cables. The rest is OE.
(Ignore the pedals, dang it. I have the OE pedals, clips & straps, but not a pic that way)

My most original, a 1979 Koga Miyata Pro racer. I have since changed the bar tape as it should be black but is faded to brown in this pic.

I own Ray Dobbins' '79 Guerciotti which he assures me has never been ridden. He gave me the original Guerciotti-labeled tires, but I don't have them mounted. His pictures are far superior to mine: [Click!]

My '69 René Herse, which I may put on eBay, is completely original:

I think my '48 Umberto Dei is original except for the handlebar tape:

I believe my '58 Atala is also original except for the handlebar tape, tires, toe clip straps and water bottle cage (which I added).

I don't have a single bike that I've kept anywhere near original. I'll have to try it sometime. It doesn't sound like much fun, though.

New tubulars, derailleur cables, and bar wrap over the original decent condition wrap. Everything else disassembled, cleaned and lubed. When the Delrin front derailleur cracked, I replaced both front and rear with the '76 correct Super LJs.

Bryan
I don't think those brake lever hoods are original. Those came later.

Super LJ derailers came much later.

GB, thanks for helping with my Peugeot education. Maybe not quite as appropriate for this "original" thread as I thought. Even though bought new, the LBS had apparently "up-graded" it some between 1973 and when it finally sold 3 years later.

Yes, after digging some more I agree... the original pic from my brother (dated 10 April 1976) seems to show the half-hood levers, yet he swears that they were never changed. It least the full hood versions, and the Ideale 2002 seat began appearing on the PY in the summer of 1975. Steering stem appears to be the mid-70s Peugeot branded version.

Originally Posted by Grand Bois View Post

Velobase says the front SLJ "first version (early 70's)' and rear SLJ5000 "Mid 1970's - Early 1980's". So (at least to me) the first version front and rear SLJ is period correct (~1976) for this dealer upgraded PX-10.

So what I am concluding is that my brother was sold a 1973 PX-10 that was turned into a wannabe kinda like PY, and 34 years later I inadvertently continued that trend by upgrading to the first gen SLJ transmission.

It is still a fun rider, and gets ridden every few weeks... not as pristine an example as many of the beauties shown on this thread.

There were Super LJ derailers in the seventies, but Peugeot didn't put them on PX10s. They were using SX series derailers on them well into the eighties. Maybe they were trying to meet a price point.

Geez Randy, you definitely are a node for time-warp bikes! I'm curious about the "original" bikes with no pedals, just threaded holes in the crank arms. Must be for riders that have threaded spindles sticking out of their ankles?
