Nice Suntour components on Japanese road bike
 

Found this quite random 'Superstar' road bike and refurbished it. OK lugged frame but really nice Suntour components. Nice alluminium crank, levers, shifters etc. they did some good bits back then!

All solid parts... but the frame looks like it was run into a wall.

Do you have a picture of the toptube, downtube, and headtube ?

Suntour was definitely putting out good stuff back then. That the lower end of their line up but still robust stuff. Personally I like the ARX, Mountech (though the RD has some that dislike) and the Cyclone. Still trying to find a really nice frame like A Miyata 912 to hang my Cyclone 6000 bits on.

It's more about the parts with this one. Didn't really take a proper picture of the frame. Nice little head badge though.

Agree with 65er, looks strange, like the fork is bent back, causing the top tube to look like it is sloping upwards. Check it out Or maybe that was intended. I've not seen many vintage Japanese bikes with sloping top tubes, but I certainly haven't seen 'em all.

Oh for chrissakes. The frame has crank overlap. Don't they have trash cans in England?

At any rate, SunTour did indeed make some nice parts, though I'll reserve comment on the ones posted by the OP. The last generation Superbe Pro was, IMO, superior to the Dura-Ace of the same generation, which was at the time considered the best racing equipment available.

Pretty serious crash damage on that frame unfortunately. Pretty much anything Suntour made back then was decent or better. The Suntour Honor was basically their entry level line.

The crooked wheel reflector is giving the illusion of the frame being plowed in...

Bent top tube, but I would like a better picture to verify. So maybe its just my old eyes. I was not looking at the wheel, I was looking at the odd bend on the top tube, and it looks like the DT has a tweak as well.

Head tube pic needs to be taken from the side, showing the first 10 to 20cm of top tube and DT.

I'm hoping Roger is just goofing around. The crash damage is perfectly apparent. The frame needs both top and downtube replaced - and anyone who would put that much effort into this quality frame needs his head examined.
