Campagnolo Quick Release Varieties
 

I need a pair of skewers for Record Hubs - 126 rear.
Gran Sports are considerably less expensive (ebay) than Record and Super Record.
How do they stack up quality wise?

I've never had trouble with any Campy skewer. The GS may weigh a couple grams more.

I suspect the GS version may actually weigh less, since the lever is held in place by a small circlip rather than a nut and washer, and the cap on the other end lacks the steel D-ring found on Record skewers.

GS should work fine, and most folks won't know the difference looking at them.

Are the Gran Sports considered the same as the ones as on my Nuovo Tipo hubs? Sounds like it, with the circlip attachment. End nut not as pretty or massive, or quite as user-friendly I found...as the Record skewers, but yeah, those Record skewers sure do demand a premium on ebay, don't they? Watched a pair of flat bladed ones end at over thirty bucks a piece this last weekend. Incredible. And it bugs me when sellers sell them separately. Anyway , I like my Tipo ones just fine.

The main difference is in the nut, NR/SR skewer nuts have the built in D-ring which provides friction against the treads. This keeps the nut from moving each time the wheeel is removed/replaced thus preserving the adjustment.

GS skewer nuts are of the nylock variety.

I try to use the allen key theft-deterrent skewers, but I do really like Campy and DA skewers.
It just bugs me if they don't match, seems like 57 varieties. I carry the allen key because it's the same for brakes, saddle, cable clamps.

The "allen" key skewers come in two kinds: cheap/ready to fail and pretty darn nice. The cheap ones will either strip out inside the nutted end, or the allen key hole will ream out. The better ones, and they're only about $10 more, have been great.

I don't think anyone's sent me a matching set with a set of wheels in two years.
