Build it up? Sell the frameset? Help decide the fate of this Peugeot mixte...
 

I got this Peugeot mixte complete a while back. I robbed a few parts off of it. This frame has certain features that many here would appreciate. Should I build it up and sell it or continue parting it out? Keep in mind, complete bikes aren't selling for poopaloop in my area right now. Thanks.

I find lower end bikes sell better complete, ready to ride, than as parts. There always seems to be demand for mixtes around here. This one is pretty basic and the paint looks challenged, so that would limit the value here quite a bit. I've got one in similar condition right now, and it never seems to make it to the front of the line in the project queue. Bare frames around here bring just about nothing. At some point, I either donate them off, or build them up. I'm closing in on that point on the one I have. I took five framesets to the co-op two weeks ago.

In the end, I always seem to have another frame in better shape for my parts, so the ones with paint issues never make the cut.

I really need to do a better job culling the bottom of the project pile.

Just based on aesthetics, I feel like somebody would just love that bike as a daily rider. Quite the lugs at the headtube, and I'm not sure I recall seeing that chunky lion badge. Looks to be in good shape, but not shiny enough to worry about. In some circles, I think it would be much appreciated just done up as simply as possible for a cruise to school, to the pub, a rack or a basket for groceries...

You probably wouldn't recognize the headbadge. This started out as a France only option bike. 650B wheels and Mafac Raid brakes.

I say rebuild it and enjoy it. I'm also biased in the sense that I'm in the process of rebuild a vintage mixte of my own. Also, if you don't want that rack I'm pretty sure you're not that far from me. ;)

I won't enjoy it. It's a 20" (too small) and I would rather have a Japanese or English mixte. If I'm going to go through the trouble of Frenchness, then I'd rather it be a different bike I'll actually ride.

If you're not going to enjoy it then pass it on to a new home. What size are you looking for in a mixte? I have a neighbor that has a Takara.

I just don't want a mixte. Haha. There's 4 in the garage already. All but 1 are for sale.

Not a fan of the mixtes at all, but that headbadge is just awesome. I'd have that surgically implanted on my breastbone if I could :)

Oh, and I'd recommend cleaning and keeping the chainguard too. It's basically a necessity for someone considering this bike, and it's right cool, as well.

Paint it black,put it in the front yard and hang plants on it. Put a for sale sign on it and it will sell for more as a yard ornament than a bike. I do it all the time.

i'd clean it up and sell it as a complete. seems like a lower end frame wouldn't go for much if naked. or give it to the co-op...

You all say that this is low end and the tubing would say so as well. However, how many Peugeot mixtes do you see with the swooping top tubes? This bike was also a factory 5 speed.

It may be best suited as somebody else's winter project. I'm on cleanout mode.

I was going to say - that looks like a 650b Paris-style city mixte - You can always tell by their swooped cross/top tubes. Then I read you say what I was thinking.

Did you find that bike in Texas - If so, it must be a truly rare bird with an interesting story - or buy it and have it shipped over?

And if yours was 1 or 2 cm taller, I'd buy it in a second. Of course, then you probably wouldn't be selling it...

No, I'd still be selling it. I'm not sold on the idea of riding a mixte yet. I don't really know the story on it unfortunately. It was abandoned and made it to a junk shop, unfortunately.

I think it's great, and I'm looking for a city mixte for my girlfriend, and was even thinking of going 650b on the build. I love everything about this one, but I think the 20" size might be too much of a strain. My girlfriend is around 5'8"/9", and can safely sit on my 58cm frames, so I think it's too short for any use I'd have for it -- or else I'd send you an offer right now.

If I'm reading this correctly, the OP is selling it whether he builds it up of not? Since it is an oddball, I would sell it whole. Having to source replacement parts for that bike will probably scare folks from bidding to high. Throw it up on ebay, see where it goes.

If it were mine, I would rebuild it as best I can in the most economical way. Then put it up on ebay and make sure to use '650B' heavily in your marketing. My guess is that you are not into it a whole bunch, so what's to lose?

Nothing to lose really. The 650B's and Mafacs will not be going with it. It fits 27" wheels just fine (that is what is currently on it).
