Bikes then and now game

I see a lot of companies retain bike model names over the years. It'd be interesting to see the "then and now" versions of the bikes. I'll start:

Specialized Sirrus:

Then:http://img1.classistatic.com/cps/po/...02283d_27.jpeg
Now: http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/...us_black_d.jpg

Fuji Finest:

Now: http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/dbima...finest_2_0.jpg

:/ I like the old specialized and the new fuji... does this make me a heretic?

that Epic is a huge change. Almost like they'd forgotten they'd already used that name for a completely different style of bike.

Raleigh has probably done more to recycle the names of models and have a long history to draw from... am actually fairly pleased with their new offerings (Grand Prix and International) as they retain classic geometries and are very much what the original bicycles would look like after someone did a modernization.

In my mind the Raleigh Lenton is the classic club bicycle of the 40's and 50's but one of the earliest examples of them recycling this name was when they put it on what is a dressed up 5 speed Raleigh Sports.

There is nothing wrong with the mid 70's Lenton as it is a very attractive bicycle but... it isn't a Lenton.

Agreed, I'm just mostly miffed since they didn't bother attempting to make it look like the classic decal setup...(on the grand prix that is)

They do use a script that is akin to that used in the sixties and early seventies.

right but when I usually think classic raleigh, or even centurion those foil decals come to mind.. although that modern lettering is indeed very similar to my super course.

Disappointingly, the name seems to have been dropped from the lineup after that.

Wow, that Pinarello looks like a spaceship. It's actually quite beautiful, in a very different way.

Luckily, I'm trolling a bit. The original GIOS brothers are still at it, making nice racing bikes, but another company has name rights too and uses it on crap like this. BTW the GIOS brothers offer a C&V resto service, with a complementary tour of the premises if you can do a local pick up, very nice of them.

Zaphod Beeblebrox 12-12-11 04:32 PM

i'm really amazed at what they turned the Super Course into. The original doesn't seem like a very racy bike to me at all......certainly doesn't ride like it either.

I'm not saying I want one, but as an object.
