I may get ban for this question
Is it blasphemous to change the color on a ‘78 Paramount?

Mind you, I get the feeling that you're not too happy with the existing Nuovo Gran Sport components on the '78 to begin with - so you'd be in the soup in terms of paint and components. That's a hefty bill. Can I interest you in a trade for something closer to what you're looking for? Send me a PM. -Kurt |
"Band on the Run". Great album but I propose that Wing's best work was "Back to the Egg".
Poking the Paramount Bear (cudak888) can be dangerous. You may get banned. There would be a ban upon your presence. It is possible that a band of steel(Columbus SL or Reynolds 531) would be placed around your ankle and anchored to a Wal-mart mountain bike of questionable aluminum alloy. Hooked on Phonics; what an awesome idea. |
"Rubber Band Man" by the band The Spinners was a great song, but it was banned in the USSR.
|
I ruined all the jokes by changing the spelling in the thread title. I can make it up by banning everyone if that will make it better
|
Band, banned, who gives a flying ****, we all knew what he meant. ****ing grammer nazis.
|
Band the joke ruiner!
|
back to the subject of the thread, I think you should leave the paint alone.
|
I love Campus Green on a Paramount.
|
I see a way rad fixie on the horizon.:roflmao2:

Campus Green seems rare on a Paramount. It's one of my favorite Schwinn colors. Blasphemy for sure.... maybe you should post a picture.

Stingrays and Varsities come to mind.
(I'm sorry, they just do). I know it's a great bike. A bike that color, you have to focus on the other qualities. Wasn't Dusty Springfield Banned in Boston? |
It would be outrageous to repaint, what more do you want in a bike, that bike is awesome.
|
I like the color, actually.
|
I think painting that bike would be a crying shame. It is a beauty! I'd suggest finding a Paramount that needs repainting.
|
What's the point of getting all OCD on correct parts if you're going to ruin it by getting rid of the one thing you know is original?
|
That doesn't look like a Paramount type color, but it looks very nice as-is. I say leave it and sell it if you don't like it. There are other bikes out there.
|
Well do you park it in bad neighborhoods?
If you do wax it real good and then some rattle can flat black should cover all the expensive looking parts and no one will want to steal it |
Looks nice as-is, but...
1. It's a free country... 2. It's your property... 3. Do what you want with it... If others get bent, they can always make you an offer you can't refuse. =8-) |
That color (among others) and those decals say late '70's Schwinn to me. I remember that era, I bought a new Schwinn road bike from that era (not a Paramount). I bought it with high-school-restaurant-job-money. I feel very connected to that era of Schwinn, it's an almost un-explainable kind of thing, and seeing that photo of that bike brings it to mind.
Probably not many people feel that way, and if they don't, then it's just an old bike in a color you may or may not like. Hell, maybe you feel the same connection I do and the only thing is, you've hated that color all these years. Anyway, I wouldn't paint it. But it's not my bike. |
The more I study the details on that bike the more I like it!

WOW. I love the color on that bike. It really pops in that photo. I'll admit that I didn't like Campus Green on my Suburban for a long time, but it grew on me over the years.
As to the correct spelling of common words, it's amusing to me that people here like to get worked up over the appropriate components to hang on a bike, or the period correct paint colors to use, or the right tires, and will happily argue for days over the merits of Campy vs. Shimano; but correct their spelling or grammar and they get offended. |

I have had bikes painted because of color. In this example, as the bike is larger, I bet you could find an ALTERNATE frame either in a finish you want or one truly needing paint for much less than the cost of a new paint job say... from Waterford. |
