need assistance in locating a frame pump for xmas gift for friend's son

Hi,
I'm joining this forum because I am looking for information on purchasing a frame pump for my son's friend. His friend was over this evening with a bike that his father gave him. He delivers subs as a job during his xmas break and apparently this bike is one that his dad bot about sometime in the 70's. I only saw it briefly and in the dark but i noticed he could use a pump as the one he has doesn't work but he keeps it on the frame anyway. he took the bike in for maintenance and the shop guy offered him about $2,000 (so he says). I can tell you the seat is leather and it says "IDEALE" and another stamp I think said "GROUPON"? He's using it daily and it's really a nice looking, well built bike.

Anyone know where, how much or what i can get him a replacement pump for xmas? he's like another son to me and i've known him since he was 4. appreciate the help.

oh, and sorry i'm using this forum for something other than being a lover of bikes...

Any modern pump will do - it doesn't have to be a vintage Silca

Pretty sure he could get a frame pump easily at the shop at which he had the maintenance done.

Oh! I din't know that. I was thinking since the bike was older that he wouldn't want something newer on it. i asked him why he didn't get a new one and he only replied he knew it didn't work but he liked it. that's sort of why I wanted to keep with what looked closest to the one he got...thanks and ill look in the shops.

I like the Zefal Hpx pumps and have them on several bikes.

The old Silca pumps look great on old bikes but they're more delicate than the modern ones. Still, it might be the case that his Silca could be made to work if he oiled it.

Another option is leave the Silca pump alone and get him a CO2 inflator that he can carry in his pocket or bag.

Also, if this bike is as nice as it sounds and he's using it as a delivery bike, a quality lock would make a great gift, if he doesn't already have one. Your local shop should be able to help you with that as well.

Silca Imperio

The Silca Impero Frame Pump looks like a modern interpretation of the antique. You'll need to have some idea of what size bike he's riding to get one that fits his frame. They look like they're about $20 before shipping.

Great idea for a gift!
