ALAN supercorsa, Same question, different owner.
Well well well, what do we have here?
Picking this one up tomorrow as shown but have no intentions for it yet. group is full arabesque with a GC code on the cranks (87?) minus the campy headset. If this is the earliest of ALAN frames I'm not sure quite how I would like to ride it. at 56X56 it is a little small for me but possible also the slacker geometry (compared to a vitus) should be more lenient. Obviously it need a wheel, a seat and some love. but would the group be better put towards another project? everything is in great shape, except the gold gian seatpost in 25.0:notamused: Serial number S33022 Then comes the age old question: is it going to be safe? no cracks were seen on the headtube but the fork did have some wobble with headset tight (ovalized?). Were the first generation ALANs the least trustworthy? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-m...-09-27_517.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7...2-09-42_97.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-o...-09-36_141.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-P...-51-02_947.jpg No braze-ons, I guess it would make a good conversion. |
There should be a date code on the frames seat tube
I riddern a 1981 alan over the alp's with out problem, really love them. |
Very nice bike. My size. I'd ride it, no worries.
Fork may be wobbly, but that's probably just adjustment. |
Beautiful bike. Approach the fork/headset issue carefully. Re-pack the headset and take it from there, but DO NOT over-tighten the headset. The steerer on the fork is aluminum and delicate, and if you over tighten it it will crack with a loud PING when you are riding it. I speak from experience. Unless you see separation around the lugs etc. I would say it's perfectly safe to ride, and a pretty rare bike at this point with those dropouts.
