A Schwinn collectors image collection. Part 3 (Forum newbie)
Hello,
Some of you may know of me, I have a popular Schwinn web page very highly Google ranked. (why I do not know) My name is Jim, I'm from the Lafayette Indiana area. Grew-up in the bike business, I'm 54-years-old.
Some members who are into classic road bikes suggested that I post some of the heavy, middle, and light-weight Schwinn bikes in my collection as there are many people who dig these as well.
I have been collecting since the early 1990s. I like vintage road bikes the most and I ride them but have a little bit of everything going back into the 1940s.
I have almost 50 Schwinns but this selection of images are the ones that are some of my favorites.
I know that the women's bikes have almost no value but I have bought them at yard-sales for dirt cheap money (some for free). 90% of my collection is pre-ebay purchased in the early-mid 1990s.
Our original paint 1973 Schwinn Continental - 10 speed 27" road bicycle. 1973 was one year only on this color known as "Sunset Orange"

Our restored 1973 Schwinn Apple Krate 5-speed with hand operated caliper brakes and very rare Genuine Stingray Krate speedometer/odometer. Bought already superbly restored at the same yard-sale as the 100th anniversary Black Phantom.

Our restored 1978 Schwinn Stingray "fenderless" in Kool Orange. I restored it in a not-correct 1978 color but I love Kool Orange! - This is the "real old School" boys bicycle. - I can remember well my spectacular leaps off the pitcher's mound. I thought I was going into orbit, but was probably getting less than one foot off the ground. I also vividly remember a huge crash on one of these. I was zooming down a steep alley in West Lafayette and lost control and got a serious case of road rash. Another time when I was riding in flip-flops, I clipped my big toe on a tree-root up-heaved sidewalk segment and took the tip of the toe right off... How we survived childhood is a mystery to me.

Only one year of production, extremely rare 1978 Schwinn Stingray "Sneaker". The bicycle has a tennis shoe styling motif. The pinstripes and writing on the chain-guard are designed to look like shoe strings. I have a girls one as well.

Our limited edition (one of only 2000 made) 1999 Schwinn "Grape Krate" New in box. A lot of people bought this very limited edition. So did we. I had the inside line so got it for dealer cost plus 20%
