Just What I Needed, Another De Rosa
Picture this as a last cigarette before quitting...just in before New Years and bike related resolutions!! I couldn't resist...it's titanium, yellow and a De Rosa (though I think painted titanium is inherently stupid). I absolutely love yellow for bikes.
I'm planning on building it with the gruppo currently on the Serotta...9sp Record.
A prior owner claims it was brazed by Ugo rather than Christiano and is a signature model. I am not able to make out the serial number...I think it's obscured by the paint on the BB shell. I know a few here bought Titanios from Matzumaster and I believe this originated with him as well. I especially love the enameled headbadge...I've never seen a De Rosa with a headbadge like this before.
I'm sorry the photos aren't better - the lighting was terrible. For your viewing pleasure:

Nice!
Can't wait to see her built.
I wish your Serotta fit me, as I would take care of disposal swiftly.

Yeah - that Serotta Colorado II is SWEET, but I can't justify keeping both. I do wonder if I'm keeping the right bike as I love Nivachrome Columbus frames and the Serotta was probably built by Mr. Kirk (as per Mr. Kirk).

looks great
personally I think painted Ti has a certain snobbishness to it. when someone ask what the frame is you can just sort of shrug and say "well it is Titanium" (while acting all french and looking down your nose at them) like there are some kind of chowderhead for not knowing that. LOL

Interesting - my response would be what kind of boob would paint titanium??? If it weren't yellow I'd have the paint stripped.

Well, the titanium is there for the weight, no? So if you like a light, yellow bike this is spot on, I would say. I like it.

What's your beef with painting titanium? Because it doesn't need paint for corrosion protection, it shouldn't be painted?
I like naked ti so I'm on your side but I don't really care either way. I probably wouldn't get a ti bike painted but if I came across one it wouldn't bug me.

The best part of ti for me is that it's so easy to maintain...no paint chips, no scratches. There's just no logical reason to do it.

[QUOTE=KonAaron Snake;13656921]I think the corrosion resistance is as, or more, important than the weight savings and the paint is just needless weight. I LOVE yellow, and it's in pretty decent shape, so I'll keep it as is.
Agreed.

i am very excited to see the finished product. is the record group early 9spd titanium record with gen1 ergos?
ive been around road cycling literally as long as i can remember. i think logic and reason is missing from most of it. ive got five complete bikes in a two bedroom apartment for goodness sake.

i like yellow too, and that's a nice yellow.
BTW, aluminum doesn't corrode much, yet nobody complains about painted aluminum. unfair.

Thirdgen - first gen ergo was 8sp as I recall. These are carbon 9sp ergo shifters. Alloy cranks, calipers and derailleurs with the AWESOME record ti seatpost.
I could be wrong, but I think paint on aluminum does make sense. Aluminum doesn't corrode the way steel does, but it does corrode. I think it also is prone to visible tarnish, scratches and the like...which can't be easily brushed out like ti can with scotch brite pads.

there was also a rare record 9 lever that had the new rounded shape, alloy levers, and the old 8spd era internals:

the 3rd record 9 levers were carbon and share most of their internals with 10spd:

Gotcha...I have the third gen. When you said first gen ergo I thought you meant first gen of ergo.

I'm not sure. I was planning on waiting, but now I'm getting the blood rush. I have all the parts I need so long as I'm willing to sell the serotta. Therein lies the problem - I like the serotta.

If not, it's just another bike on a hook.
After looking at a ti Serotta cross bike at a local dealer, it's only a matter of time for me.

I keep running through different herd-thinning scenarios in my head. One of them involves selling my steel IF and a Merckx and picking up a titanium IF or Serotta cross bike...
