Colnago Super with a strange tab.
I already posted this in the CV inquires thread so I hope this is aloud...
So today I picked up a Colnago Super with a serial number 0746
it has a tab on the underside of the top tube. Can someone explain the significance? I tried looking at other Colnago Supers and didn't see any others with it...
the tab...

As I mentioned in the appraisals, that is a number hanger for your race number.
Three of my Supers had them, one did not.
Cool color on that nice Super!

Ok, but would there be a reason that my Super has one opposed to all the others I have seen? I should also mention that I'm SUPER pumped to own a super.

+3 race number braze-on.
Nice frame! Looks like she's in great shape, too; don't see the seemingly-obligatory front brake-strike chip on the downtube, so that bodes well that it was well looked after.
I think there are a lot of us that would love to see more pics of this beauty.

more pictures as requested. I'm having trouble nailing down it's year though, previous owner thinks mid 80's mix of components. I might have to put my campy record cranks on her. the bad news: I think she might be a tad too big.
She came home with me, ended up picking her up for $500. She does have some light rust, but it's only cosmetic which doesn't bother me at all. Maybe someone can explain the number tab to me? I can't find any info on it not to mention I can't even find pictures of others with it.
sorry for the potato phone pictures.
She came with the turbo but I threw my swift on as soon as I got home.
the tab... Seriously I'd like to know about it.
cinelli stem and bars.
campy front DR and shimanno 600 cranks/brakes
campy drop outs and the serial number 0746
campy aero seat post
campy qr

Too early in the game to tell though. What's the frame size (top tube being the most important, but also list the seat tube in cm) please?
Center to center on both.
Roughly, how tall are you and what's your inseam?

That will be an easy frame to dispose of rather quickly.

If the saddle is set up for you currently or just a bit high, I would just get an all round seat post.
Reach is a different matter.
Does the frame have COLNAGO stamped into the chain stays near the chainrings?
My hunch is this bike is before SLX tubing too.

top tube is 57 cm roughly
seat tube is 58 cm roughly
and the stand over is close to 33in
I'm anywhere between 5'9" and 6' depending on who measures me so let's say 5'10"?
my inseam is 32 I can stand over it but let's just say things are snug.

I was thinking about getting a round seat post to lower it just enough. I might switch the stem to a slightly shorter one too. Yes my chain stays are stamped with COLNAGO and the columbus sticker is too beat up to pull any info from.

Nice - thanks for the additional pics!
That's 1982 or 83 - flat seatstay caps, fully-sloping fork crown. I bet $10 the fork stiffening tangs have a triangular and round cutout on both sides and that the chainstays have "Colnago" stampings, too. I further bet the clover cutout on the BB shell is the later type, with the flat bottom of the clover stem rather than the earlier pointed version.
She'll have a rifled steerer, but the rest will be SL. Is that a 58cm c-to-c?
I never, ever judge a bike's age by the components - too easy to simply remove them and replace (we do that here all the time!). It's just not at all an accurate way to determine any bike's age in my book.
Oh - pull the front brake (and the rear, too, if it's nutted, too). I bet you find this was built for recessed brakes.

yep, c-c
I figured the components wouldn't help as they're a mix of DA, campy and shimanno.
