No century ride this week end it was longer.. .... it was an around the island (on the paved parts so no Kaena PT.... just ewa beach around diamond head...... through Waimanalo....Kailua......down Kaneohe bay drive...through the north shore and up pineapple hill and down Kunia back to the beach (home) So a total of 133.43 Miles
I started and finished here http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...uy/photo81.jpg |
Did 150 miles or so of single track, jeep roads and hike-a-bike in a little more than 24 hours. We used mountain bikes and carried camping gear, tons of water and food.

This is what I'm into these days, hence my more or less static post count on C&V.. |
Envious.

Here's my entry for April. Completed a 200k brevet in Des Moines yesterday. I would have taken more pictures, but I wanted to make good time before the severe weather hit. Here's a more detailed account: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...1#post14100624
And the obligatory shot of my steed near something interesting, the High Trestle Bridge near Madrid, Iowa. :) http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...g/IMG_2739.jpg - Scott |
I did mine on Saturday.
Got up not too early, out of the house at 7:00. Beautiful day. Had one near run-in with a pickup truck, in avoiding which I ran over a stone curb. Sore wrist but nothing broken, I kept riding. I had inadvertently set up my new mileage computer in KM. Got home just before noon with 111.1 km on the meter. Then I went out for lunch, which was another mile, and later on went out with my wife and a friend of hers and rode another 31 miles or so. It all adds up. It was nice riding with the ladies after I had already tired myself out. Their slow pace didn't bother me at all. :innocent: I didn't bring my camera on the first part of the ride, on which I rode my Cera, which has derailleurs and Suntour Command shifters... but in the afternoon I, when I was on my 1948 Raleigh Record Ace, I had my daughter's camera with me. Here's one.... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7127/6...e19c326e_b.jpg Way down at the bottom of that hill you may be able to see my wife on her tiny Bianchi. |
^^A fine example of the lax rules we embrace here. This could be the poster entry for those wondering what qualifies.

April Centuries:
aboatguy jan nikolasjen leaping_gnome double metric ThermionicScott double metric rhm For myself, even though I'm not riding centuries during the hot months, I am still managing to keep up with my dues in the 1000km a month challenge, over in Long Distance. |
I tried to start up in April with the Powhatan Historic Bike Tour on April 22nd. However, due to steady rain(heavy at times) and high winds in the afternoon they closed the 100 mile course and diverted the riders to the metric route. Toughest ride I have ever been on. 50 degrees, hard rain and heavy winds. Every aid station people were wringing the water out of their sock and shoes.
My ride for May will be the Storming Of Thunder Ridge in Lynchburg VA along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I should have some pictures of that one. |
I did the Boston Brevet series 200k route yesterday ( a day after all the other randonneurs, due to a time conflict). I work up to this:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7236/7...9a6277f600.jpg and then proceeded to ride a total of 170 miles (200km plus the 40 miles to and from the start) up through southern New Hampshire. Most of it looked like this: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8003/7...632c0a951f.jpg and this: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7078/7...eaf2eb191d.jpg and to throw in a scenic shot of myself and my rando-fied 1983 Fuji S12s-LTD! http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5451/7...0e74d06841.jpg This was the longest ride I've ever done, and I have to say it was very exhausting. It took most of the day, and I think i could have been happy with just the 200k brevet route. but the bike really proved itself, and I'm going to reward myself by removing the heavy Schwalbe Marathon tires and the heavy unused front touring rack. |

Ah, May.... Well, I've been riding my CF Roubaix for several weekends now... a 400k at the end of April, a double century this weekend, and a 600k the following weekend. Then I will see if I can manage a 200k on a vintage bike.... Jim |
Do they count for this thread, if not done on a C&V machine? ;)
I got another century in yesterday. As part of my first 300k brevet. :D So I think that makes two metrics, and four total centuries for me this year. Photo evidence: http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...15563005_n.jpg (That's my '88 Bianchi Premio, in it's best working shape, yet!) - Scott |
Good going, guys!
I thought I was going to get in a century last friday but made a group effort out of it and the total ended up being 58 miles. Oops. Well, we had fun. Also thought I'd get out today but instead decided to focus on some mechanical issues I've been having with some of my bikes, including my commuter. Not a good idea to defer maintenance too long.... |
Hi All,
I surpassed the 5000 km mark this past week(for the calendar year). 3110 miles. |
Nice, seeds!
For whatever it matters, I put in another metric just now -- 46 mile group ride, and I made up the remainder riding to and from it. Had some killer energy-sapping headwinds along the way, so I don't think I'm going to try for a full century... - Scott |
Hello all, I hope you're enjoying the holiday! I finally had a chance to ride a vintage 200k permanent, so I chose this one http://www.rusa.org/cgi-bin/permview_GF.pl?permid=1400 and set on my way. Here's the local llama farm a few miles from the start
http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0354sm.jpg And the top of th big 18-mile plunge down the San Francisquito grade from the high desert to the more coastal side. http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0358sm.jpg At the bottom of the hill, Six Flags Magic Mountain http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0364sm.jpg My turn-around point, Fillmore, in the valley of the Santa Clara river, is mostly known for oranges and avacados but also for the local train which stages murder mysteries on-board during its trip up the valley. http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0367sm.jpg Back up the hill at Castaic Lake - Lake Hughes Rd http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0371sm.jpg Looking down at my Masi and High noon shadow on the hot hot climb http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0385sm.jpg Finally at the top http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0388sm.jpg Got passed by about two dozen Devils Diciples motorcycle gang on the Lake Hughes Rd, overall it was a busy afternoon for motorcycle traffic on the beautiful day. Total was 206 km, 127 miles, for the 10 hr trip. Jim |
A slow month.
jptwins and leaping_gnome, with dougle metrics, and ThermionicScott with an imperial. '88 isn't vintage?? |
Got mine in yesterday (and this morning) -- a 400k brevet on the hard-working Premio.

jptwins and leaping_gnome, with dougle metrics, and ThermionicScott with an imperial. '88 isn't vintage?? Very well organized and executed ride! For any of you Mid Atlantic riders this one is tough but should not be missed. On the Memorial Day weekend I rode all around through the Northern Neck of VA. I logged 117 miles, but it was over 3 days so I don't think that counts. This Saturday coming up I will be riding from Richmond (VA) to Williamsburg (VA) and back. That will take me over the century mark. I should have some pictures of the various historical sites along the route. All of this riding is on the 72' Lejeune of course. |
Got off to a really late start yesterday but finished. Started on the outskirts of Richmond. Down Rt. 10 to Surry. Crossed the James on the ferry. Tooled around the Colonial Parkway then back up Rt. 5. Over the James again then back to the start. Odometer reads 104.93. Got some pictures but nothing exciting.
For those around Richmond, the new bike path on Rt. 5 is both a blessing and a curse. Having a bike only path is great, but those stop signs about every .25 to a mile make it tough to make good time. The Colonial Parkway is so rough it will knock your teeth fillings loose! |
