Went out on 1/1/12 on my classic and my vintage club jersey that I got in... err... 1977... Riding on New Years Day is a tradition that I started last year.

Anybody else ride yesterday? It was a balmy 54 degrees when I started then I got caught in the rain on the way back and I was freezing and shaking.

The jersey fits but it is a tiny bit snugger because I have developed incredible muscle fitness these past... 34 years...

I am glad to say that Hincapie followed my footsteps in Flushing, Queens...

-25 C, with the wind chill factor, today. Didn't ride yesterday either. Spent half the day shoveling snow. I was baffed when I finished with the scoop.

The January 1 ride is a tradition for me too. December 31 was incredibly - an unseasonably - warm for Missouri, and I certainly took full advantage of the favorable conditions. Yesterday, January 1, was very windy and cold but I took out the PX-10 as I've tried to do in past years. Today is even windier and even colder still. I'm heading out in a few minutes mostly because I can (school break ends today and I have to report back to teaching in the morning.) That will still qualify my batting average for 2012 as 1.000 though!

Didn't think of this before. Maybe for next year we could organize Jan 1 vintage rides in different cities and post photos afterwards on CV.

Of course these vintage rides must be done at hammerfest pace, a la Eddy Merckx style...

I rode the Sprite to the top of Lombard Hill and back with my friend Mark--total distance of maybe a dozen miles. Temp in the low 40s and cloudy--atypical New Year's weather in Northern Vermont. A little nerve-wracking riding down STEEP dirt road from my house, which was covered with ice, but it had been very well sanded so no problems.

I did the local New Years ride in my city for the first time. Started off with some rain showers and temps in the 40s, and the wind kept building. I didn't realize how windy it was until I got to the finish, turned around into the wind, and rode a mile back home.
I also never realized how far a roostertail from a bike can travel, especially with a 20-30mph crosswind. I think I was the only one with fenders that I saw the whole ride, and I still got some mud on me from other riders.

Congrats on your streak OP. Weather was in the 40s and driving rain, but I still managed to clock 45km in Luxembourg yesterday. Didn't take my vintage 'Nago though, the fendered Surly is for that weather.

I don't have a tradition of riding on 1/1 but I did manage to get out for my first century of the year. I was riding within minutes of sunrise, and still riding an hour after sunset, for a total of 115 miles. Beautiful day for it. Riding my 1971? Lambert which is set up as a three speed.

I also rode my first century of the year; temps in the 80s. A hair overly warm for this time of year. I don't have a New Year's day tradition, but I DO have a Sunday tradition. 100 miles exactly.

We've been lucky with some great weather in NY. Got 20 in on New Year's Eve. Rode with my daughter who's home from college yesterday. Planned another 20+ today but it was head winds all the way plus I got out late so 17 was what I ended up with. Back to work tomorrow. Next weekend is already looking good if you can believe the forecasts.

Did an amazing group ride on Sunday, went down to Princeton, I think around sixty miles. Beautiful day, not too cold, not too warm. Had a tasty apple muffin, hung with some awesome people. Today, however, was pretty terrible. Horrible headwinds the whole time, freezing cold and did not dress for it at all.

I bought a bike yesterday, and rode it 20 miles till my ass felt like a baboon's. I got in 10 more today, and dropped it off at my mechanic so he can tune her up and make her ready to roll.

Ah, cool jersey! I remember going to the Kissena Velodrome as a teen back in the early 80s. This was before they cleaned it up so it was quite run down.

No New Years Day tradition for myself, being that it's usually freakin' cold in NYC/Boston/Montreal that day. Now that I'm in AZ, it's just another day to ride, 79 F and sunny. I did put in a few miles New Years Night though.

We have a New Year's traditional ride as well - but it's generally not as much of a challenge as for those in colder climates. We try to make up for that with some climbing by riding to the summit of our closest peak - 3849' Mt. Diablo. Had great weather this year with the summit actually being warmer than the towns down below and there were lots of cycling groups enjoying the conditions.

I took my Fuji out for a ride one the 1st also, it was around 45F over here, didnt see many people riding that day it was calm in Boston.
