Selecting the correct spokes
The '78 Paramount spec's calls for .072-.069 or .092-.080 ga. DB stainless spokes. I'm thinking about having the rims re-laced with a nice set of Campagnolo Nuovo Record high flange hubs I've had for a while.
Is there a chart that I can use to select the correct length spokes with the high flange hubs on my 700 rims? |
You need to use a spoke length calculator. This is a very good site to learn from,

I like this one very much too.

3X or 4X
I can tell you from experience its 306mm if its 4X....the Schwinn literature states the length, IIRC it's 12-1/8" ish or so. |

And, if you're kind of new to building wheels, like I was just a short while ago, I think this guy's write up on the subject is invaluable.

Depending on the spoke calculating program you use, you have to know either the rim you are using or the proper diameter measurement. Odds are, for an early 1970s rim, it will be pretty close no matter what rim you are talking about, but in selecting spoke length, "pretty close" is not good enough. I learned long ago from bitter experience that you really need to get the right length spokes. That means accurate measurements of all the pertinent data or (much better) a spoke calculator that has done all that measuring for you and only requires that you know the make and model of the rims and hubs. |
This calculator has a database of hubs and rims, so you don't have to measure them:

I've always used 293 for 3-cross and 304 for 4-cross with high-flange Campagnolo to old style 700 rims...
