Older Carbon Wheelset HELP!

Hi guys,
I'm hoping you can help me with this: This wheelset showed up for sale for what seems to be a pretty good price, $275, it's a Zipp 440 from mid to late 90s. I noticed there are some flat spots in the rear rim, is that warping? Are they on their way to death?

The other thing is that it doesn't come with a freehub, and though I was told it used to have 8s freehub and it has 130mm spacing, would it be difficult to find a replacement freehub? I'm waiting on pictures of the hubs.

You think it's worth the price?

Thanks in advance for any input!

I wouldnt be to concerned with the waviness....that's just the way it is. Too bad you cant install them and check the braking surfaces for smoothness, I'd be more concerned with that than the sidewall waves.

email Zipp, I see no reason why you couldnt find a freehub body.

Thank you, I didn't know the waves on the rims are normal. The seller said it was only used for a season (though I know that can't be proven), would it still be a good price assuming the wheelset is in good condition?

I just checked online for freehubs and they seem to go for around $100 mark. That would make the total cost not as attractive anymore. Still deciding..

I think it's still a pretty good price. Worse case scenario is you paid 275 for a set of carbon rims and just pick up some newer hubs. That's still even a good deal just for a rims. You might even be able to use the spokes and nipples if the new hub flange is pretty close to the same size.

It's actually only a freehub body that I need to make it work. So even better deal?

Bianchigirl, not sure what you mean. These must not be the only 440s in existence?

I realize it's just the freehub you need. But I'm just saying for the price of a freehub you could pick up a new set of hubs if all else fails on finding it. I was looking at buying it set of carbon tubular rims and they are roughly the same price. I think it's good deal either way unless there's more to meet the eye with the wheelset why stuff is missing.

I had a set of those and the hub bearings had a lot of friction. Even sending them back to Zipp didn't help. You can't beat the price, though

I've got a Mavic Cosmic Elite rear hub. I'll check the spoke count.
