Is this frame a Pinarello Montello?
Last night I purchased a Pinarello Montello frame and fork from a reliable seller. The paint color is a rare pearlessence blue which seems to be the original paint job. I have not seen a Pinarello in this color before or in my research online. There is a Montello decal on the toptube that has faded away and/or been stripped off. Please help me in determining if this frame is actually a Pinarello Montello and what year do you think it may be. There is a serial number on the bottom bracket and the last two numbers are 91 so it could be a 1991.
Thank you in advance. See pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/6627132...7628756342629/ |

No chainstay bridge, both stays chromed, Montello seems like a good possibility.

I think it is a Montello. As Lester said, it has no chainstay bridge, and it does have the distinctive webbed bottom bracket. Nice bike.

Looks correct to me. Here is an early eighties Montello frame set to compare yours to...

What was the Pinarello hierarchy in the mid/late 80s? Other than the chromed stays and lack of chainstay, how do you tell them apart? Nice frames, btw!

I don't know much but back then
Montello - SLX Record - SL Treviso - SL Italia - Tretubi |
Look/feel for the rifling in the ends of the seat and down tube.
Otherwise is plays the part well, with the typical fragile transfers long gone. |
